JohnnyHeck Wrote:Study.com allows you to change your subscription status beginning with each month's anniversary date. So you could signup for the $100/month plan and then when ready to test for credit (2 max), upgrade to the $200 plan, and then retrograde to the $100 plan until ready to test again. I look at it as paying $100 for test fees. Give that you don't have to buy textbooks, it seems very competitive to me compared to SL especially if you like structured course video learning, although it's been reported in another thread that the quality of video content can vary widely among courses.

It's always $200 to test because you have to upgrade to get the eligibility.

jsd Wrote:How did the final proctored exams align with the courses? I'm just about ready for the Abnormal Pysch exam and Research Methods is next.

The material on the finals aligns well with the course, but the finals have mostly new questions. There might be 5-10 questions that you've seen before, but the remaining 90+ will be new questions. Unlike the chapter exams that repeat a lot of the questions from the quizzes.

Great, glad to hear it aligns. I certainly don't expect identical questions, but as long as the material prepares you well, I'm happy. Thanks Smile

jsd Wrote:Currently going through the Abnormal Pysch coursework, really enjoying the setup right now. I'll check back in when I take the exam. All the in-course quizzes and chapter exams are right from the videos, word for word. I'll let you know how the final credit exam matches up.

Just got word back from my Abnormal Pysch final exam -- 95%.

Very happy with the setup here, and I like how courses in similar fields all tie in to each other (for example, I found out I was 13% finished with my Research Methods course before I even started it, just by completing the Abnormal Psych course, as there is some overlap).

At least for this course, the material more than prepared you for the final. The final wasn't word-for-word from the content at all, but if you have an understanding of the overall concepts, you are definitely prepared. I'm very happy with it.

89% on my second (and unfortunately, final) exam with Study.com, Research Methods in Psychology. I put considerably less effort into this test than my first one, and it was still a great experience. Very happy, wish I could finish out more of my study plan with them.

I finished Principles of Marketing on Wednesday and 30 hours later, I got my results. They said it could take 1-2 weeks, so I was pleasantly surprised. I started with Study.com because Marketing wasn't a credit I could take through Straighterline. I loved the concept of the videos and the short quizzes.
Like mentioned before, the material more than prepares you for the exam. New questions, but the concepts stay the same. I also liked the system that you just could the exam when you were ready and you didn't need to set up, with a live proctored.
I liked it so much that I'm gonna take courses I had originally planned through SL, through Study.com now! I'm planning to take Business Law, Principles of Management, and Intro to Computing for college credit.
Good luck!

Yes, the on-demand (non-real time) proctoring is very innovative and a welcome setup. No scheduling stress, just take when ready.

I just wish you saw your score right away. There's no reason not to. Just show the score with a big note that says "this score is conditional on a review of the proctor recording" or whatever

THIS! That was really my biggest gripe about study.com! Sometimes I had to wait a couple of days for my score, other times it took over a week. It's really annoying when you know a score was calculated as soon as you finished the exam.

Hi - I am just starting off with Study.com to try to knock out a couple of credits really quickly. How long did those psych courses take you? And were you able to go through the Study.com chapters, quiz and just take the test or did you put in a lot of extra study time to get those great grades? (Even though it is P / NP, the high grade offers some confidence boosting. Smile )

Both courses took me about 7-10 days, but I was going through a lot of the videos a day (I have a looong commute by train to work, so on my way back and forth I was constantly watching), so you might want to do it slower if you don't have as much time to fill as I do while travelling. The Abnormal Pysch class I had some background in, but really I think the videos alone are more than enough to get a solid grade. It's a much longer course than the Research course, though. Videos for both classes get repetitive, but I'm sure repetition helps many people learn best. The research methods touched on a lot of things that I remember hearing about in a Stats class I took, but it was long enough ago that I wouldn't have remembered any of that without the study.com videos so it was like going in blind. It was still fairly easy.

I didn't do anything special or outside studying beyond the videos and the quizzes. On the chapter tests, I got anywhere from 87-100%. As long as you have a good understanding of those concepts, you are more than prepared to pass. You won't get word-for-word questions from the quizzes/chapter tests on the final exams, but you won't see any "gotcha" questions or anything. It's all the same concepts.
