I'm getting ready to take my first exam at Study.com and it mentioned needing to do a room scan with your webcam. What if my webcam is built-in to my monitor?? I have a 27" iMac and I'm not sure how to complete the 360 room scan, so I can continue on with my test.
At Straighterline, I just used a BIG mirror, as the proctor directed me where to angle it at.
Help?
I DO have a laptop that I could use at my desk, instead of my desktop?! But I suppose it's an option. I can't justify purchasing a stand-alone webcam just for this.

To be on the safe side I would just use the laptop since you can pick that up and rotate 360 degrees. They are going to want to see all around your room and the desk/work area. Study.com uses recorded proctoring(as opposed to live proctoring where the proctor can direct you in what to do and what is acceptable/not acceptable), so no one will see until after you complete your whole test.

Yeah, I also have a 27" iMac that I use as my primary workstation, but for proctored testing I either use my laptop or I use my wife's PC with an external webcam and detatch that to scan the room.

I charged up the laptop. I plan on sitting it in front of my 27" on the desk. LOL Hope it's not a problem. Guess we'll see! I did call Study.com and it kept giving me an error when I would push for extension 2, saying I've pressed an incorrect extension. I then tried from my home phone, same prob. I could only get to extension 1, and it said they were busy and to leave a voicemail. Ahhhh! Fingers crossed that my laptop will do the job.

So how did it go??
My webcam is fixed too, but we have a mirror that always use, hasn't been a problem.
For a giggle, I will tell you that my 19 year old was scolded last week because he didn't have a shirt on! The proctor told him to put on a shirt, that there is a dress code. (oops) but also a funny, another proctor saw our kitty sleeping on the bed and asked to see her up close. Also said "what a cute kitty - shhhh don't wake her up"

there is a way around this? my webcam is built in so when I got tired of picking up my large all in 1 pc and rotating it I went out and bought a laptop... but I do it in a separate room as I believe the other monitor in the room may cause an issue.

For this part, "but I do it in a separate room as I believe the other monitor in the room may cause an issue."
I just turn off my computer and the monitors. When i do my 360 scan with my laptop, I point out that the computer is off and the monitors as well.

However out of view of the camera, directly behind the laptop I am taking a test on, Is not something I would risk. Then again I am overly cautious so this is just my opinion.

Jennifer-- can you clearly say that you use the mirror technique specifically for Study.com finals? I love using my big ol computer, as my eyesight has gone bad over the last few years, and using my 13" Macbook Air is not going to fun. In fact, I hardly use it, ever since I bought the 27" desktop, so I can see e v e r y t h i n g! LOL
I still have half a mind to just buy a darn stand alone webcam, just so I can sit at my desk, use my desktop and be comfortable while testing. I'm a terrible test taker as it is, so if I can at least be comfortable and not have to worry about being flagged for potentially cheating, then I may be able to pass the final without barfing. LOL
Once again-- the cheaters making it complicated for the rest of us.

I have two 29" curved screens on my desk along with my laptop and my desktop tower. I take my study.com proctored tests on my laptop in front of those screens. I just prove that it is off by just pointing it out on the camera for like 5 seconds showing the LEDs on the tower and displays. As long as the keyboard and mouse is away from you and you don't touch it, you are pretty much good.
