Stuck in the mud
#1
Hello everybody! As of late, I find myself stuck in the mud, accomplishing next to nothing. I don't know what is wrong with me. Everything seems to be getting better (especially after surgery) and I have more free time on my hands. I could do more FEMA credits and take more exams (not needed but what they heck), but everytime I turn on the computer to start studying, I blow it off. Reminds me of times when I was in high school. I wouldn't study until the last minute and do essays the night before. Still happening to this day. Just wondering how I could get off this bus and learn a different way. Anyone out there who was able to defeat the computer ADD? (no offense to anyone in any way)

Looking at your "Up Next" stuff in your sig, I would suggest going to the learner.org site and start watching some psychology videos. After all, it's not like real work, it's just watching TV, right? Meanwhile, get a copy of Princeton Review Cracking the GRE Psychology. Even if you don't intend to take the Psychology GRE, it's a good overview resource for the exams you have on your list as well as others. Flip through that while you're watching the videos, and when you feel the urge, schedule another exam.

Don't feel bad about taking some down time. I'm on a very aggressive plan, and I'm still taking breaks when I feel like the studying isn't paying off.

Yes, I went through this- you can probably find my thread in the archives.

First, do you have all your necessary study tools in an easy to access location that is free from distraction? Quality work space and quiet is not to be under-rated. (she writes at 1am while the kids are in bed)
A couple things. You need to really get motivated in your goals. For me, something that I find really fun is looking at grad programs. I can spend hours pouring over programs, comparing them, etc. If you find this torture (like my husband does- you should skip it!)
Also, I re-wrote my resume to include my degree in progress and also my future degree Smile Of course I am not job hunting so no one will see it, but I AM MOTIVATED to see it on there formal-looking!!
Another idea, do you have an actual typed out degree plan on your computer that you can check mark or work on? I did this last year (I'm a bit anal) and used blue font for classes I needed, red for classes enrolled in, and black for completed. I had a section for what to register for, deadlines, etc. It should be custom made for you, but it will give you total focus to see it in front of you. Don't do the extra FEMA unless they are part of your plan. I would be happy to email you mine if it you want ideas.
Finally, as suggested through this board- call the testing center and set the date.

My motivating solution has been simple....

Schedule the tests. Big Grin

All of them. Big Grin

Then you have an outside deadline imposed on you. Big Grin

That's what I did, pretty much. I scheduled my A/I Lit Exam for 1/4 (tomorrow now!) and that was that- I had to study/practice test taking because it costs me $90 hilarious

Also, I'm pregnant and due July 20th. I don't want to be studying for CLEP tests with a newborn, so I have a goal of finishing my degree requirements with TESC before 7/1, so I can be done with it. Probably that motivation wouldn't work for you Big Grin
I'm done!
B.A. English, TESC, completed December 2008

Tests passed: A/I Lit-73, Mgmt-71, Amer Lit-73, Tech Writing-64, Criminal Justice-56, Here's to Your Health-65, Law Enforcement-60
