Straighterline for speed for Algebra & Stats?
#1
I'm considering my options for College Algebra & Statistics. Previously, I'd considered ALEKS, but it sounds like a number of students ended up investing hundreds of hours before passing. Yes, the price is right, but time might be a little more valuable to me. I considered studying on my own and taking exams, but the specific feedback on DSST math exams is making me shy away.

Now, after a year and a half break from my studies, I return to all this talk about Straighterline (which I didn't know about before). While it is more expensive than ALEKS, it sounds intriguing.

Can those of you who has used them for math advise me on how reasonable it is that I could complete a course within a month? I have been away from math for a long time, but I am motivated, logical minded, and have unbroken hours of study time available to me.

Thanks so much for your input!

I don't believe it is necessary to spend so much time on ALEKS if you score highly enough on the initial exam. I think it is your best option to first do self-study and then try the ALEKS intial assessment. You can take time to work out difficult problems on it. I think it is possible for you to complete both courses in a month using ALEKS.

I completed College Algebra in 3 days without a problem statistics took me 2 months. Buy the study guide of the textbooks and you will be fine.

I agree with wb.john. Also, if you didn't pass ALEKS assessment within a reasonable amount of time you wouldn't do too well with Straighterline either. If you struggle, at least with ALEKS it isn't pass fail and you will actually learn the material.
