Straighterline Proctored and Closed Book

I took SL Biology with lab this morning. I checked the course last night to confirm that it was open book, after reading the discussion on here. When I connected to the proctor, though, she told me at first that it was open book, but then revoked that and told me it was closed book. The time is also reduced down from 120 to 90 mins. I have no issue with closed book exams but it shouldn't be sprung on people at the last minute. I only scored 49% so I hope that it's still an accrued grade rather than requiring a set pass mark for each exam.

I took the final today, and I'd like to thank everyone for their help.

The new psych final is only 60 questions, not the 80 advertised by SL. Also, it is closed book, and you are not allowed any notes. I felt confident going into the exam; I had all 200 previous exam questions memorized by heart. Unfortunately, NONE of the final questions were repeats. That being said, I was only able to get a 65% on the final.

I ended up with a 77% for the course, and I'm considering retaking it over the summer. My university requires 12 credits of alternative credits, and this C could cause me to lose my full academic scholarship.

One of my students took SL Business Ethics and to my surprise he told me that his final exam was proctored and closed book. I contacted SL immediately and they confirmed this and several courses have closed book examinations now and seems like they are going to expand this to other courses. The type of examination is called UA and seems like they have it custom designed to fit their courses.

This is a major major change! have you guys experienced that kind of examinations already? I need your valuable feedback!

I just officially signed up for Intro to Psych yesterday and took the first 4 quizzes. (I have been reading and quizzing myself but wanted to wait until I was ready to actually subscribe to SL so I can maximize my subscription) . I took all 4 quizzes yesterday and scheduled the final. Then I read that it's closed book and thought it was a mistake. The advisor verified that Intro to Psych is closed book.

This is my first class with Straighterline. I cannot fault them because this is still a very good deal. It was just a surprise to me because it's the first time I'm hearing this.

Gosh, am I glad that I don't have to do Straighterline anymore! When I took all 26 of my courses, they were open book.

Thanks Gawyn210, but I think that message was for when they made the transition to "proctored" tests in 2012. When this occurred the proctored exams were all open book. The change to closed book proctored exams is a new change that started occurring at the end of 2013.

I wonder how long it is going to take for all the final exams to be closed book.
