I've been looking at some previous posts regarding Straighterline finals. I am currently enrolled in a Straighterline course (Intro to Statistics). I've already completed 1 exam just 2 days in with a 75%. I found out that I cannot use any materials whatsoever during the final, so I'm afraid I might fail. I came across some posts that said I can still pass the course even if I don't pass the final? Is this true? .... I have 5 more exams to go before I reach the final exam, but I would like to get some insight on it before I get to that point. Thanks in advance

majority of the courses the answer is yes. You can pass without passing the final. however your final is worth 50% of your grade in the intro to stats course.
So, if you got a 90 on the next 4 quizzes.... you would need a 53 on your final.

Oh! and you can always retake the first exam for a higher grade (only first exam though)

Thanks for the info. I think I better retake the 1st exam then since I only got a 75%.

I like to keep taking the first SL exam (if need be) until I get a 95% or higher so it gives me more of a cushion for the rest of the exams.

I have to get a 70 minimum to pass the 6 exams before I get to the final exam. Is this correct?

SL uses an accumulated grade system. Each section exam is worth X points. Usually lessons exams are 100 points, midterms are 150 points, and finals are 200 points. Points do vary from course to course. Your goal will be the same, to get 700/1000 total accumulated points to pass. If you fail then just retake the course. Do not bother keeping the answers to exams because the questions are pulled at random from a large pool. As for open book finals, some are and some are not. Accounting is open book but, business communication is not. Each proctor is different meaning, the policy they follow will not be the same. Some will require you to do XYZ while others will require ABC.

Suzanne, I missed it on my first SL course too ![Wink Wink](https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/images/smilies/wink.png)
But once I figured it out (with a helpful word of advice from gingerbeefE) I really appreciated that option. Because in SL there really isn't a professor preparing students for an upcoming exam, the option to retake that first test it gives a sense of freedom as I can get a feel for how the rest of the tests in that course are probably set up/worded.

No. You can take the final exam before you take any of the other courses if you want to. The only requirement to take the final exam is to be enrolled in the course.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how many points each question is worth on the final exam? I did a calculation and came up with 8.3 because there are 60 questions worth 500 points total. I'm curious if all questions are weighted the same??.. Does anyone know. I spoke with Straighterline and they didn't give me an answer, they told me to review the final exam material provided and it doesn't tell me how many points each question is worth.
