Straighterline Accounting II (Managerial)
#1
Hello Everyone,

Just finished the Straighterline Accounting II course. Available at Online College Courses Distance Learning Courses. I haven’t had it sent to FHSU to transcript yet.

Here is the story:

The course is self paced. The more time and energy you put it, the faster you finish. No proctor required. Total time from start to finish for me was just under 40 hours of work, in 7 days. I’m a pretty good/fast reader, so your mileage may vary.

The course has 14 quizzes. From 18-32 questions. Average around 28. They were all un-timed except one , Quiz H. No idea why this one only was timed. By coincidence it was also the only quiz I did not use the materials online to study for, never even opened them, the text was sufficient). It had a one hour time limit and a count down clock appeared on the quiz. It was very doable in the time allotted. I took about 2 hrs for each quiz/chapter. Some faster, some slower. But altogether I spent 28 hrs working on or reviewing the chapters and taking the quizzes.

The course had 4 exams. They were 30-32 questions each and un-timed. I averaged 2:50 mins study and exam writing (they're all open book) on each. Just over 11 hours total

This is not an "easy" course. But it was about as hard as I expected if that means anything. I finished with a 90%. (96% on the quizzes, 86% on the tests). If you follow all the steps they outline in the program, you'll pass. If you want to get a good score, you'll need to work hard. I thought the exams were much harder then the quizzes, so keep that in mind as you go along. You get the results of the tests immediately, use that to keep your score on track for whatever grade you need.

You should get a good textbook, the one they use in the course is Fundamentals of Accounting Principles 18e, using this edition will save you a lot of time and frustration. The course is passable without the text. The chapters from that book are exactly like the chapters in Financial and Managerial Accounting 2e, by the same authors, just in a different order.

The best hint advice I could give you would be get a real physical text book, highlight like crazy as you go, use sticky notes to label and mark the pages of testable info. This worked very well for me. It’s pretty evident as you go through the text which items you’ll be tested on. Before each test there is a study guide. Print it out mark in the book where the answers to those questions are. I can’t emphasize this enough… index as much as possible in the textbook as you go, it will save you many many hours.

Good luck everyone.
Joe

Do y'all know if the Straighterline course will transfer to Thomas Edison? I've read that you can get them Excelsior via FHSU, can you do the same thing with TESC?

I don't see why TESC wouldn't accept it. FHSU is a regionally accredited institution so you shouldn't have any problem getting them accepted whatsoever.

I'm sure a TESC student can confirm this.

When FHSU transcripts the Straighterline courses, they appear as a regular FHSU equivelent course.

Managerial Accounting
Financial Accounting
Principles of Economics, Macro
Principles of Economics, Micro

There is no mention of Straighterline anywhere, including the FHSU transript. When the transcript is then sent from FHSU to TESC, nobody would have a clue that Straighterline was involved. In the end, the transcript would look like any other RA school, which TESC would accept.

Excelsior students take note that the courses do receive grade equivelents, so if you need to maintain the GPA, you'll have to buckle down.

I signed up for the course. I got the 17th edition of it, instead of the 18th they ask. I really hope it works well.

How many hours a day you think I should spend doing each chapter for optimal results? One of the reasons I signed up for the class was the untimed quiz / exams advantage... I have an anxiety disorder and having timed examinations really freaks me out

Any other extra tips of suggestions?

Thank you

fhsu is awarding letter grades. I took ACCT 1 and ENG through straighterline and my unofficial transcript from FHSU shows:

ACCT 203 STR Financial Accounting B 3.0 9.0
ENG 101* STR English Composition I B 3.0 9.0
---

perriquit,
I'm using the 16e of the book they recommend for ACCT 2 and it is working very well for me; I only spent $5 total on amazon Wink .
