Stats/Math Resource Question
#1
Besides/in addition to Khan (Kahn?) Academy, can anyone recommend a good resource for "translating" math (specifically statistics) concepts to formulas?  I'm working on the ALEKS Intro to Stats class, and I do just fine grasping the concepts -- as long as they're all in text.  But then they shift to formulas and I have trouble understanding how they got from point A to point B.  I need them to define the individual variables they're using within the formulas.

I don't mean mathematically defined; I mean linguistically defined (I guess).  For instance, I need explanations like, "P stands for population.  P1 is population 1; P2 is population 2.  n represents..."  In some cases, I'm not even completely certain which numbers are part of the actual equation and which are simply part of complex variable symbols.

If I could find a resource -- ideally something in text rather than video -- that would show me how the formula represents the concept, I'd be set.

I realize you said text not video, but have you checked out John Wood on youtube yet? I'm going through Intro to Stats as well and he's simply fantastic at making things easy. Plus all the tricks for the calculator are like magic.

Thank you all! I'll check out all of these. (Video is good; I was just hoping for not ALL video.)

Just passed Intro to Stats on the initial assessment. The hardest test I've ever taken by far. I took my time over two days.

John Wood's videos were a great help, but there are quite a few subjects he never touched. I found myself having to learn how to work certain problems as they came up, which was an interesting experience, especially at 2.00am.

Anyways, I passed with a 72, so not exactly a genius, but I'll take it. Hopefully this will be the hardest class I ever take.
