Statistics Study Advice Needed!
#1
Hey All!

I'm trying to complete ALEKS Intro to Stats or DSST Stats exam. I want to try ALEKS first, as I feel that will be much easier for the non-math person that I am. This is a must get in the next month or so for my BS at EC.

I'm looking for some books that will help me understand statistics, keep in mind it has been 25 yrs since I have been in a math class! I'm looking at Statistics for Dummies, The Humongous book of Statistics Problems and REA's Problem Solvers Statistics. Has anyone used any of these? Any suggestions?

I remember reading about some videos someone recommended, but I can't find the link. Any suggestions in that area are also greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm looking at both of these options, too.

This is a video series at learner.org that I have seen recommended:

Resource: Against All Odds: Inside Statistics

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Any other suggestions?

Yes, I have been using a free video series on youtube. kahnacademy.org
It takes a few lessons to get used to his style, but I finished the probability series and felt he did a much better job teaching me than just using ALEKS lessons alone. By the way, join ALEKS asap- you can start crackin away. I had trouble with the math section too, but just copy down the way to solve it, and just keep doing it like that. Eventually, you'll start to remember and then at some point you'll start to understand why.

IC, Against all Odds, and some googling was sufficient for me to pass the DSST. I hated every minute of it; I am allergic to math. Sad I suggest going with DANTES if you're like me and just want to get it over with, but I'm sure ALEKS would drill it into your head better if you can stomach it. Rolleyes In any case, get to it! The finish line is in sight!

I found the text book (for the course) at my local half price book store. You can find them also on ebay for pennies.

(Passed the test with a 451, passing score is 450)
