Starting with 0 or only a few credits, what is the fastest anyone has finished?
#1
I see that some people seem to just fly through the exams and was just wondering how fast some people were able to be ready for graduation.

I have seen some people on the forum finish in 6 mos, 9 mos, a year, or much longer than that. It really depends on so many variables and each person is different. Do a search on here for other threads that have this same topic. I know I have seen this discussion come up before and there are some people on this forum that finished incredibly fast. Wish I was that fast :reddevil: But the main thing is to finish!!

I've seen someone start with 0 credits and finish within 3 months. I forget his name but he pretty much CLEP and DSST'ed everything.

Unless you already have a job you don't have any plans to leave and just need a bachelor's degree to be able to check a box, I think you should focus more on getting the right degree at the right price.

I agree. ANY testing you do will accelerate your plan. For every 30 credits you test out of, you reduce your degree plan by 1 year.

I know I am not the fastest, but I did mine in 9 months. I have heard some people do it in 7 or 6 or even quicker than that. I tell you, there are some amazing people on here.

John Bear has mentioned that he knew someone who studied for a few weeks and took four GREs over the weekend to complete a bachelor's from Excelsior. This was, however, way back when Excelsior awarded 30 credits for passing GREs in the 40th percentile, before capstones and when you could schedule a few GREs in such a short time span.

Are you planning on speeding your way through it, yourself?

I decided not to do it the speed demon route. Sure, I want to waste no time (although I have already wasted plenty!) but there are so many courses that I want to take, and to thoroughly absorb what I learn. You might want to take that into consideration when planning your degree. The fastest degree routes will include learning just a few random facts that you can bubble in to several, mostly easy, multiple choice exams. Some of the basic business, math and social science exams don't even require study for someone who has finished high school.

Sure, there are plenty of available resources for learning any subject imaginable, but you will likely only do "the college thing" once in your life Smile

Obviously, you know your needs best, but I just wanted to, at least, give you an alternate view of the matter.

Not only that, even if a college like COSC or something still accepted the subject GREs, and multiple ones at that, ETS won't give anyone the opportunity to take 4 in a weekend anymore. All subjects are tested at the exact same minute, exact same day, so you can't take more than one test in April, October or November. In fact, when I took the psych GRE I asked the proctor if I could use the Monday testing option so that I could have a possible retake of my psych on the Saturday and a first pass at the mathematics subject that Monday. She said you can call and try but basically I had a snowball's chance in hell. If you don't have something like a religious conflict with Saturday the Monday option isn't an option.

I'd guess if you started from not even knowing about the Big 3, and were a walking encyclopedia-eidetic-genius-person-thing, it would take a number of weeks to actual schedule all the tests, take them, get the transcripts where they needed to be, etc. That is assuming you can easily pass any test at the drop of a hat.

And that's the key thing the others mentioned. Speed with regards to this stuff hinges on how much you have in your noggin' before you start studying. For example, someone with years of experience in an accounting/science job that loves reading classic literature could possibly pass a lot cold.

If you are wondering how fast you could do it, I'd suggest just getting the CLEP Official Study Guide and do a ton of the tests with no preparation. Same thing with the DSSTs.

I still have a ways to go, but I seem to be able to take one test a week if I really want to. I gave myself two weeks for Humanities because it was such a broad test.

I only have time to study in the evening, so I typically will open up the laptop, sit next to my hubby while he watches tv and read IC, Wikipedia and other sources to study from about 7:00-9:45.

I guess what I'm saying is that I am married with 5 kids (ok - 4 1/2 because we only have my stepdaughter 50% of the time), work full time and travel for work. I think that if I can take one test a week, it's possible for anyone to do. I really hope that I can continue at this pace; I feel like I'm accomplishing so much!
