I just signed up for the College Algebra course from Sophia.org I've never taken Algebra at all, at any level (not even pre-algebra) and have been dreading this moment for months. I figured at $99, I couldn't pass up this opportunity. As of last night, I'm currently working through the 1st Unit and seem to be picking it up well so far although it is a TON of information that is new to me.
My question is does anyone know how long taking this course should take? I'm talking actual course hours? I understand each person varies, but if anyone here has experience with this course I'd love to hear how long it took to complete and any tips. I'm just trying to set logical expectations and make sure I can budget proper time to work on this course while also doing others. It appears I have 60 days to complete this, so budgeting time is important.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I can't speak to the Sophia course specifically because I haven't taken it. I think 2 hours a day is a realistic goal. You can always go a bit longer on certain days as needed (like if you're stuck on something) but it sounds like you're understanding the material well enough. Take short breaks and the occasional day off so you don't burn yourself out. Good luck!

There's really no way to tell you this info. Someone who has taken the exact course would have to be at exactly the same place you are in terms of knowledge, and then tracked their time doing the course.
My advice is to start, and do as much as you can, and if you find after a month that you haven't gotten halfway through, you could consider asking Sophia to give you an extension.
But, I would guess that if you plug away for a realistic amount of time each day, 2 months would be plenty of time for most people.

Sophia will generally grant a 30 day extension if requested, but you have to be close to the 60 day mark to ask for it. You can't go in asking for 90 days from the start.

I've been at it for 5 hours today and still I'm only just past 1/2 way in Unit 1. I assume that is good so far. Going to take a break and start fresh tomorrow and do some tests. Does anyone have the sample College Algebra CLEP tests in .pdf? I need some offline homework to start working at once I get through most of this material. I didn't think i'd say this but Algebra is kind of entertaining so far. Almost like riddles. Hope I feel the same way after another 30+ hours of this stuff
Thanks for the input everyone. Anyone with Algebra .PDF sample tests please hook me up

If you want additional practice, I suggest Khan Academy. You can specifically choose Algebra I, and then when that's done, go to Algebra II (College Algebra is both). Best part is, it's free.
