Has anyone taken the sociology CLEP? Did IC prepare you well for it? Was it easy? Hard? Did you find you needed additional materials to study for it?

Thanks for the info. I was actually asking for my husband. He needs to fulfill a social science and I thought this one might be good for him to try. I appreciate your taking the time to respond!

Hi folks,
I sat the Introductory Sociology test on Tuesday and passed. My preparation was to take one of the two REA sociology tests on the CD (didn't have the book, scored 48%), then read through the exam with the correct answers and explanations provided. Sat the same test again the following night and scored 98% (this was exactly the same exam, exactly the same questions). I found a really, really good video tutorial on sociology which was extremely helpful. It's about 2 hours long in total and covers everything in the exam. I will post this when I get home from this evening as I can't remember the address. I can still remember one of the girls saying, "Hang on, but our buddy Auguste Compte, says that sociology must be based on facts!" Logical postivism, scientific method, coined the term 'sociology'. All coming back Will post tonight.

Hi folks,
The website which contained the videos which were so useful for passing my Intro to Sociology CLEP is: Studio 4 Learning The segments under sociology are not in order necessarily, but you should be able to work out how they flow. My impression is that they were originally part of an educational VHS tape based on length. Good hunting!

I passed the Sociology CLEP today with a 53. I studied IC flashcards for a total of 4 hours without prior knowledge or courses. It seemed a bit hard (probably due to my failure to prepare more) but if you study the flashcards, you should do well. Good Luck.

Hello,
I took the sociology clep about a week ago and passed with using mainly the IC flashcards. Before the test though I read through Sociology 101 offered through sparknotes and that really brought it all together for me. I passed with a 62. I studied for about five hours. Hope that helps! Good Luck!!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. They will definitely be used.
I did not know sparknotes had any resources on sociology. Thanks! Also, I'm not familiar with REA. I plan to google it, but if you have time, maybe you could let me know. Thanks, again! Donna |
