TESC ASBA and BSBA Marketing concurrently... suggestions?
#1
Hi all, I posted a few months back about my ASBA plan and got some wonderfully helpful responses -- now I'm back at it again to pick your brains some more :p

I'm currently enrolled for both an ASBA and a BA in Communications (what I picked when I first applied to TESC; can't fathom why, I honestly can't remember), and I'd like to switch the BA to a BSBA in Marketing... is this feasible/practical/recommended? If it is, I'm looking to see how I can most efficiently earn credits that can ideally be applied to both degrees -- I seem to recall there being a rule about "24 new credits" for a second degree or something to that effect, but I can't recall if that applies to a BSBA after an ASBA or not. If my plan isn't feasible or recommended, I'm interested in hearing what some other suggestions might be instead.

My current ASBA credit evaluation, for reference (I'm signed up for MAT-105 College Algebra and CIS-107 Computer Concepts and Applications, as the evaluation will show; the ENC-101/102 credits appear as duplicates because they were transferred from both the College Board [AP] and my previous CC):

After earning an associates degree, you need 12 new credits in the area of study for a second associates degree. After earning a bachelors degree, you need 24 credits in the area of study to earn a second bachelors degree. You don't have to worry about earning a certain number of new credits for a bachelors after earning an associates. I don't know why one would want to earn an ASBA and BSBA concurrently, but you can. The ASBA will be nothing but a space waster on your resume if you have a BSBA.

Thanks for replying! Rather than doing the BSBA then, what would be the best course of action if I were to stick with a BA in Communications, perhaps? Or should I just toss out the ASBA entirely and go for the BSBA instead? I know I do want at least some sort of degree in business administration, just not positive on which. Smile

Honestly, my end goal at the moment is to go into graphic design and/or advertising; since I can't quite afford art school just yet, I'm leaning toward either marketing or communications as my best bets for now. The business focus is more for my current (and not very secure) job at a financial institution... since I don't have any sort of post-highschool degree yet, I know getting a business degree will help me move up to something more stable, and I've talked with my current supervisor to that end. I had also thought an entrepreneurship program sounded kind of intriguing, but after reading into it a bit I didn't see a whole lot there that I wouldn't get from your average marketing or general business degree.

A BSBA in Marketing will have more flexibility than a BA in Communications. It's also easier to meet the degree requirements without having to take the more expensive courses at TESC.

If you would like to do both a bachelor's and associate's degree, it's possible to do the BSBA plus an AA in General Studies, instead of an ASBA.
