Should i talk to another TESU advisor?
#1
Sad
Hi everyone thank all for sharing all the valuable information !! Your guys Rocks!!!!!  Cool Cool ,

A little about me and the issue,
I been on and off with my education over the years, but after experiencing a mass layoff from my job, I’ve decided it’s finally time to complete my bachelor’s degree. I started this journey back in 2023 for BACS and BSBA CIS at TESU through Degree Forum and became deeply invested in the Degree Wiki resources. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I had to pause due to limited availability. Now that I’m back and focused on building my degree plan for BSBA in Operations Management -since my 2023 category already expired. I’d greatly appreciate a second pair of eyes to review it. I’ve received feedback from TESU advisor Alicia Malone that many of my recent course submissions don’t meet the Area of Study requirements for the BSBA and that my electives are already fil with ACE credit cannot be replace with my RA credit. I’m trying to make sure everything is aligned so I can hit the 100-credit mark and register for the capstone. or another opportunity with different institutions to earn my degree faster. If anyone could take a look and offer suggestions or guidance, I’d be truly grateful! Angel
so far my only applied RA credit with TESU are:
ENC-1010 Writing for Success (Replacement)       A      3 ECO-1130 Basic Economics (qrtr hr)                    C      2

Email Trail with Alicia Malone:
Dear Assistant Dean Malone,

I’m reaching out to kindly request a review and possible re-evaluation of several RA (regionally accredited) transfer credits that are currently not applied to my degree plan. If possible, I would like to have them counted toward my elective credits, as they were completed through college-level coursework and should help contribute to my overall credit requirements.

The courses in question are:
MAT-1210 – College Algebra (Replaced, Duplicates other credits) – 3 credits
DEC-0010 – Developmental English Composition I – 0 credits
CIS-1030 – Intro to Business Information Software – 2 credits
BUS-1010 – Introduction to Business – 2 credits
ACC-1820 – Intro to Financial Accounting II (Quarter Hour) – 2 credits
ACC-1810 – Intro to Financial Accounting I (Quarter Hour) – 2 credits
DEV-0010 – Other Developmental Course – 0 credits

While I understand some of these may be developmental and non-credit-bearing, several—particularly the business and accounting courses—could potentially be used to fulfill elective credit requirements.
Additionally, once these credits are applied, along with my most recently submitted transcript, I believe I will meet the 100-credit minimum required to unlock registration for the BUS-421 Business Administration Capstone course. I would be sincerely grateful if these credits could be reviewed to help satisfy that threshold.

also I would like to ask about fulfilling my Area of Study (AOS) Electives requirement of 12 SH. I’ve completed the following two upper-level courses:
MAN-4380 – Mastering Project Management
MAN-4370 – Effective Project Management

Both are 300/400-level management courses, and I believe they align well with the Operations Management AOS. Would it be possible to have these courses reviewed and applied accordingly toward those requirements?

Please let me know if any further documentation is needed. I’m doing everything I can to stay on track to graduate this summer, and your support means a great deal.

Response:

Good afternoon,

None of the courses that you have listed are applicable toward your remaining degree requirements.

As you noted, developments courses are not applicable.
College Algebra is a duplicate, as you completed another College Algebra Course.
Financial Accounting I & II are duplicates, as you have already completed Financial Accounting.
Into to Business Software and Intro to Business can only apply as Electives and the Elective area is already complete.
Mastering Project Mgmt and Effective Project Mgmt cannot apply toward the Area of Study. Give that you are specializing in Operations Management, the remaining Area of Study courses must be Operations Management courses (Operations Management, Quality Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management).

Best regards,

Alicia Malone

Basically, I edited your post, the fonts for the emails were tiny. You can try emailing another advisor, but you'll get the same results as mentioned. I noticed your previous thread, did you change your plan from the BACS/CIS double degree to the BS Operations Management? If so, what was the reason? If you have the energy, money, time, to get both done, then continue on with that goal, otherwise, finish this BSBA first. Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-with-TESU

Having the catalog year from 2023 expired and changed to the 2025 catalog year wouldn't modify your requirements. If you really wanted to, you can still continue on with BACS & BS CIS/Ops Man or BACS & BS CIS, or BACS & BS Ops man... you can add two associates and 4 certificates as well (without doing much extra work). I would focus on getting one degree done at a time, but you've got 9 credits residency, you just need 6 credits residency to finish the 15 residency credits. Those 6 credits could be the BACS Capstone and BS Business Capstone!

Thanks again for the reply and all the helpful info !!!

I originally thought the BSBA CIS was no longer considered a “true business degree” after TESU changed the structure, and since I took too long to finish, I figured I missed the window to ask for an exception — I assumed those changes happened over a year ago. That’s why I shifted to the BSBA in Operations Management, which still fits well with my existing credits for me to on the path.

I’d definitely appreciate the opportunity to pursue a double degree if it’s still allowed — either BACS + BSBA CIS or BACS + BSBA Operations Management. Since I was recently laid off, I have all the time, energy and motivation to take on both and finish strong.

You also mentioned being able to earn 2 associate degrees and 4 certificates with minimal extra effort — I’d really like to know what options I have there and how I could work that into my plan.

Right now, I’m planning to register for these 9 credits:
  • ART-1000: A World of Art
  • GOG-2300: World Geography
  • SOS-1100: Information Literacy Today
My ideal plan is to take these alongside both the BSBA Capstone and the BACS Capstone in the same term or at least the business capstone so i can be at the finish line already. This would save me several months and avoid paying the residency waiver. But since I’m currently just 3 credit shy of the 100-credit mark, I haven’t been able to register for either capstone yet.
Would you recommend that I try emailing another advisor to ask for an exception to register now, or should I complete my 9 registered credit first ?

Also, just a quick question about my regionally accredited (RA) credits — do you think a new advisor might be able to help me move some of the “non-applied” RA courses into the free elective section of my degree? I’d like to make sure I’m getting as much credit value as possible from what I’ve already completed.

Thanks again for the feedback and encouragement! Angel

Again, you can try asking another advisor, but from the looks of it, you won't go very far for the exact reasons she mentioned, it won't go anywhere in your degree (even in the electives as those classes have been fulfilled with other courses). You shouldn't add the capstone to the current 9 credits, if you want, you can add another class or two to get the full 15 credits residency covered (you can get an associates capstone done for bachelors capstone prep), you can get the associates and certs completed with this residency waiver. Then take a capstone the next semester, and a final capstone the next semester to graduate both at the same time, without a need to pay a residency waiver fee, it'll just be an extra graduation fee for both at the same time.

I think one key piece to understand is, if you complete the same course twice, or even similar courses that cover similar material, no school is going to let you count both classes at all. Not even with the second one as electives, because you haven't learned anything new by taking the same 9or equivalent) class more than once. So I'd recommend just letting go of that idea.

Likewise, nobody is going to grant credit, or fulfill a requirement, for a zero-credit course.

And Project Management and Ops Management are different areas, so one can't apply for the other in terms of AOS credit.
Finally, you can't use any more electives because the elective area is already full, so that isn't going to change either.

In short you've gotten accurate information, and asking someone else, as others have already said, isn't going to get you a different answer, because these are very basic non-controversial topics that have been settled this way for a very long time.

I'd support the advice that bjcheung77 is providing.
