In the ACE blurb, it invites schools who need to verify proctoring for a student to email them.

Give me a break.  You're supposed to make things easier on a school, not harder.  I have a hard time believing this is going to work out for many people.

"but if I was to take US History II now I would require proctoring for credit. "

The message ISKBizz15 received from Shmoop directly states that they are offering proctoring as optional now:

"we now offer the option to complete your Shmoop College Plus courses' Final Exams either proctored or unproctored."

- Shmoop

We know Shmoop added proctoring as a reaction to tesu not accepting them anymore. However tesu still doesn't accept Shmoop, so basically the price of using Shmoop increased with no added benefit to people whose schools already accepted Shmoop with no proctoring. Obviously Shmoop lost business from TESU students, but they may have also seen lost business from people who didn't want to pay extra and unnecessary fees for their classes. It looks like they're trying to win those customers back now.

Yep, and we'll be some of the people returning to Shmoop because of this. There are tons of colleges which accept ACE credit, and they were already approved courses without the proctoring. Instead of focusing on the loss of TESU, they should have just spent the effort making connections with other colleges for equivalency. Glad to see that the original option is available again.

Since COSC and Excelsior accepted Shmoop without proctoring, can we assume that this is still the case?

I would assume nothing. I would contact cosc, excelsior and Shmoop directly to confirm that it will work.

Just received this email from SHMOOP

"College Courses (optional proctoring available)
Don't want to wait to start college? Shmoop can help with that, too. With our College Plus subscription, you can get access to nearly 60 ACE CREDIT recommended courses that are considered for college transfer credit. To real schools. Seriously. And as an added bonus, Shmoop's college courses now feature optional online proctoring for each ACE course's final exam. Many schools are beginning to look for increased security measures (like proctoring) before they decide to accept transfer credit from content providers (like us), so we're dialing up the security for those who need it."
