Hello, I am seeking advice for finding a doctoral program in education. My situation is unique because I am ABD from a higher education administration program but due to my advisor dying and time limits, I was not able to complete the degree. I have over 90 hours of coursework past a Masters degree with doctoral courses in higher education administration, physical education, psychology, and educational leadership. On the professional side, I have created and implemented programs and curricula within each of these areas. At this point, I am not wanting to retake courses that I have used to actually successfully implement solutions in multiple real world settings in addition to teaching these things to higher education students. What type of program will be respected in the US but will have me hit the ground and have me complete the doctoral degree by actually doing what a person on the doctoral level does instead of repeating coursework to hear about concepts, frameworks and worldviews that I have implemented and/or taught. Can any suggestions be made in terms of programs that operate along the previously mentioned lines? Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board, it's great you've provided some details on your scenario, the info is a great addition to the missing addendum and template, as it gives some important info, but it's missing the most important details I would be looking for. Have you followed up with the institution you were attending to see if there is an ABD completion program? Have you looked at other ABD programs in administration, education, or leadership? Each state will have different requirements, what are you trying to do with the Doctorate, go into management, teaching? Or is this a personal goal? Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works Thank you for replying. Yes, I have reached out and was even admitted to the institution I was attending regarding my ABD status. I was re-admitted but evidently, no one looked at my transcript and they tried to provide advice for re-validation of my credits. What happened was that they advised me to take courses which, in the middle of the semester, they advised that these credits could be tested out of. Throughout the conversation, I realized they admitted me without looking at the fact I had previous credits from their institution. The institution I worked with is more known for football than academics, so they have no ABD program. I have looked at ABD programs, but what I need at this point is the opportunity to research and show the academic side what I can do outside of repeating coursework information that I have already implemented in the real world. In layperson terms, I want to start writing and show what has kept me employed in multiple situations. Obtaining a doctorate would allow me to move into executive roles within higher education as long as the accreditation for the school is readily accepted. I am looking for a program that will consider my experience using research and administrative skills I have from previous doctoral study. A doctorate obtained through research or program implementation would be ideal for me.

The moderators on this forum hate my guts, so they refuse to pin any of my threads that answer common questions. You can check out my ABD thread on the other forum.

ABD programs are mostly at small and non-traditional universities. I don't think any accredited university is going to give you doctoral-level credit for life experience or will allow you to test out of doctoral-level courses. The best you can do is transfer in your existing credits, but some programs have time limits. For example, they won't accept courses that are more than 10 years old.
Capitol Technology University offers dissertation-only programs regardless of one's past experiences. They have two EdD programs.

Another thing Original Poster might want to do is search for Completion Programs on this forum, there are a few threads already...
