Saylor.org Corporate Comm.>>>TESC Managerial Comm. Credit
#1
Hello All.

First post from a long time "stalker".

As an FYI the free Saylor.org BUS210 course transferred in as COM-373 to my TESC BSBA academic evaluation this week which fulfills the Bus. Communication portion for this degree. Saylor also sends transcripts for NCCRS approved classes directly to TESC N/C. You just need to send them a TESC addressed envelope with stamp. All resources needed for this class were online and also free. Saylor.org was also a great resource for additional information and quizzes for the Straightliner Financial Accounting and Microeconomics courses. Thanks to all previous posters for the Saylor info.

As a side note I am waiting for my last TECEP score to complete my BSBA requirements at TESC - This would NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE without the people on this forum! . I started approx. 6 months ago with 15 twenty year old B&M credits and followed the outline provided by Sanatone for the rest. I will forward the chronology and test sequence I took with comments once I put it togetherSmile

So, am I reading this correctly, the entire TESC Managerial Com credit can be met for $0 through Saylor and Saylor will send a transcript for the cost of a stamp???? HUGE!

Is Saylor self paced? or is it a full-time "free" college online course?

If more schools begin to accept this and Saylor expands their NCCRS-approved offerings, methinks that the folks at Straighterline will not be amused... Wink

I will try to answer a few questions based on what I know. IrishJohn's posts initially led me to explore Saylor.

- Classes are self-paced. Signing into the site, reviewing classes, materials, actual courses are totally free. Transcript free (except for stamp and envelope).
- Proctored finals for NCCRS credit required. $25 for ProctorU or proctor of your choosing. (See some of the details below from Saylor's site).
- All quizzes can be reviewed and taken multiple times (this is based on my experience with business classes only).
- There is a final exam covering all course content with a 70% min. passing score. Non proctored version will get you a Saylor certificate. This also can be reviewed with correct answers.
- The text and additional materials are all online. The materials flow really well and match the quizzes and tests.
- Recommended time for this course is 119 hours. I did it in about 15. If the chapter quiz did not go well I reviewed the chapter and took it again. The grade for the final is stand alone. Quiz grades are not cumulative or added in.

I hate to sound like a salesperson for Saylor as a newbie but compared to a few other online experiences (which I paid for) their course content and delivery is on another level. Hope this helps.

Notes for Saylor.Org website below

Choose one of Saylor.org’s NCCRS recommended courses (course list below)
Work through the course material as outlined on the course page.
Complete the proctored exam. Students have the option to take the exam with an online proctor, or with an in-person proctor:
The approved online proctoring service which Saylor has chosen to use is ProctorU. You can find detailed information about the ProctorU exam taking process here. (There is a $25 fee, payable to ProctorU, for this online exam proctoring service).
Students can also choose to arrange for an in-person proctor. Guidelines and instructions for in-person proctoring can be found here.
Upon successful completion of an NCCRS recommended exam, students can request to have an official Saylor Foundation transcript sent directly to schools of their choosing, or have a sealed copy sent to themselves. You can download the Transcript Request Form here.

Important Notes

Just as with other Saylor exams, students may attempt an exam more than once, however there will be a 14 day waiting period between attempts. (For ProctorU proctored exams, you will have to pay the $25 fee for each attempt).
You should remember that transfer credit is not guaranteed. You will want to inquire directly with the college or university with whom you are seeking to enroll to see if Saylor.org courses will fit into their programs. You can find important information, provided by NCCRS, related to college transfer policies here.
Courses Currently Recommended for Credit by NCCRS:

BUS205: Business Law and Ethics
BUS210: Corporate Communication
POLSC201: Introduction to Western Political Thought
