SL Sociology has 10 written assignments to submit

I did Sophia that was awesome way of teaching as well, looking at the milestones and stuff it helped me learn.

In my opinion a path in the right direction for SL would have been a close book exam or ensuring the reader goes through all pages and answer the questions in the tutorial slides like Sophia or TEEX I liked those ones they made sense I can still go with my own pace and learn.

My only grip is getting caught by surprise (btw the site is still not updated); Writing 10 essay giving summaries of each chapter and the main thing waiting for it to be manually corrected that will slow down the progress. This is not about making it hard its about adding fluff. The essay is only 100 points total so even if you bombed all of them its not going to effect the overall score.

May be I am getting paranoid here, but not sure how a teacher would like if I send him all 10 essay in a week, the topics of Sociology is not that complicated to need weeks specially for old folks like us Smile plus I have already started sociology study using you tube videos last week so hope to finish this soon.

I know folks suggested I get a refund, but I am not running away will give it a good try. Who knows may be I will love it Smile

Glad you are going to give it a try. Please let us know how it goes. Sociology was all multiple-choice when I took it but I actually like essay questions. They feel less tricky and allow you to demonstrate knowledge.

If it's anything like their English class, it won't go to an individual teacher. The essays in English go to a pool of graders, so they likely won't care. Even if it goes to a teacher, I doubt they'd care.

It is only 10 discussion forum posts @ 150-250 words which equals one short paragraph for each prompt. You could complete this over the course of 3-5 days easily. The practice quizzes are very very simple. So all you really need worry about is the midterm and final exam. I don't see anything wrong with submitting multiple forum posts at a time. I did the same for both TESC and Penn Foster courses and never had a problem. At least you do not have to concern yourself with responding to another students posts.

Straighterline has changed courses unannounced before, even during a course as reported on the forum awhile back. You've stated you are an older student so you have work/life experience so I'm sure you'll breeze through the course. Having the ability to read/skim a few paragraphs and paraphrase; which is all the forum posts are anyway. DF posts are not essays...unless your instructor requires an actual written assignment for DF entries (highly doubt this is the case at SL). This in fact is quite rare, I encountered it only once in one of my TESC courses. The graders, when I took my SL course, were located offshore. Just be sure to answer the question following the rubric, if given, and you are golden. Be prepared for submission feedback, as I am sure those folks are paid by the word.

I have always found sociology subjects very interesting, hopefully you'll enjoy the SL course. Good luck!

I finally completed the course, It was not fun for me due to the discussion post requirement but that is purely a personal problem of mine. I become deer in a headlight when asked to write, I can talk or give exams all day long but writing it down is a issue.

Actually all 3 writing stuff for my degree. Is now accumulated in one go to me which is overwhelming (Business communication, Sociology and Strategic management from pen foster).

I am way behind my schedule as I just got hung up on the writing stuff (still I am stuck as the only parts left in Business communication and strategic management is writing submissions arrrghhhh) due to this last week I though of giving up on the degree and just random clicked through business communication exam that was already scheduled.

Next day I smacked some sense into myself and finished the Sociology writings. Hope I could push myself similarly and do the other two soon. Am I the only one who has so much problem in writing Sad Sad.

Now for the honest review of the Sociology course of Straighterline.

The topic is very interesting and the exams are very easy, they are not confusing at all. You should read the chapters just skimming would be enough as mostly its common sense. The mid term and final were average too. I scored a 93% overall Smile

As for the writing the discussion board submission I finally sat down and wrote all of them in few days time. They were very easy and straight forward. For somebody who likes to write this could be matter of few hours only. I submitted 3 to 4 at a time and they were quickly evaluated within a day or two and got a 100% for all the posts (something is fishy here, my writing can't be that good Wink

So don't let my rant deter you away from this course.
