I am getting an error when trying to register for my Business Capstone, saying I need a granted petition. I reached out to my advisor, but while I wait to hear back, does anyone know how to go about getting one?

*raises hand* I petition for you to get the granted petition for the Business Capstone! Anyone else? Is there an academic hold or number of credits you haven't completed? Usually it's a requirement that is missing, such as prerequisites. You can only do the capstone with the majority of classes completed at at least 100+ credits, the petition usually is needed when you don't meet all the requirements for taking the class.

Really? Interesting. I have 108 credits and the only thing I need besides the Capstone is the Cornerstone (in progress), one AOS class in each of my two AOS and one GE class which I also plan to register next term along with the Capstone. I've completed all the prereqs listed in the class description. I can't think of anything I would be missing. In any event, I sent a note to my advisor and requested a review. I guess we'll see what they say.

You need to have sufficient UL credit. If you're missing 2 AOS classes, you might not have that?

I can't remember how many credits or uppers I had officially completed and sent in via transcript, but I do remember e-mailing and they asked why I was taking the course when it wasn't the very last thing and I said it was because I was completing some credits from SDC and the semester worked better for my schedule than waiting until those were complete and sent in. They lifted the advising flag. It is pretty painless. I imagine even if you don't have the 100+ or the UL you could probably convince them to lift the flag. They just don't want you to take it well in advance of completing the degree or having enough subject matter understanding to do a half decent capstone.

My experience with the business and technology capstones was similar to those posted already. TESU wants to make sure that you're just about done with the degree before you take on the capstone. Getting the hold released to unlock the capstone only takes a quick email or call to advising. They'll want to see that you have 100+ credits and nearly all of the Major&AoS complete. If you have finished external credits that aren't on your record yet, you can tell advising when you contact them so that they take those into account. Advising may ask when/how you're going to complete any other remaining credits, so having those preplanned or already registered is helpful.

Thanks for all the replies. I had emailed my advisor on Friday and heard back this morning. They removed the block right away, no problem.

Just curious and wondering why there was a block at all... Did they indicate what was causing the block? Maybe it's a default setting now after moving to the new OSS. Imaging a few students all wanting to do the capstone at the same time or term/semester, they'll get more requests to unblock...

My guess is that it was because they hadn't finished the cornerstone.
