REA book for Human Growth and Development?
#1
I am preparing for the CLEP Human Growth and Development exam, and from reading the Specific Feedback from the forum, I've decided to use Instantcert, but also get Human Growth and Development REA book. However, when I looked it up on Amazon, the last review on it was from 2009. Now they have a newer version, the 8th edition, out.
I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed any differences between newer and older versions for CLEP prep books. Does a newer version make that much of a difference? How different are the CLEP tests from year to year?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I can't comment on the the different versions, but I took HG & D last October and had lots of problems with the REA book for this subject. First, I was sent a version with no TestWare CD, then was sent a version with the WRONG TestWare CD. I contacted Amazon where I purchased the book, REA itself, and still ended up with no CD at all. For me the CD is very important as it closely mimics the setup of the actual CLEP test experience.

I don't think the CLEP's are updated all that often, so in my opinion an older REA would be just fine - just be sure to check you receive the correct CD.

REA books with CDs aren't worth the extra money. Purchase the REA book without the CD. The book usually has one more test than the CD. Reading the explanations of the answers in the book is a very valuable exercise.

I open up Excel and record my answers in a spreadsheet, then I grade it.

Hello All,

Is it really worth buying REA book or I can just rely on the flash cards to pass the test ? Thanks for the suggestions.

REA books are great for a quick brush through. I wouldn't rely on them as your primary source. I didn't see much of a difference between the two versions of the Human Growth REA book. I did notice some of the things were worded differently on their practice exams but that is about it. I would also go through amazon if you are ordering the books. I can't really justify buying a REA book for 32.00 dollars + tax from your local book store.
