Do you have to install special proctoring software or is it all done in the browser? If you have to install software, is it something like RPNow or do they have their own thing?

At some point, it seems that they used LogMeIn. Sounds kind of cobbled together.

But now when you get to the checkout for buying an exam, they advertise that their exams are proctored by Examity.

I plan to try a few of their exams in the next month, so I'll post back if I can remember. Unless you've already gone through the process yourself, then let me know as I'm curious to know too.

I took the ACTFL OPIC and WPT last week, I believe the only app I installed on my mac is GoToMeeting.

I've not taken an ACTFL exam (or any of their tests), but many students have informed me that ACTFL is proctored. It depends, if you're using the "phone in option", you'll still require the software to have access to a camera to record or see what you're doing. If you're using the Computer option instead, it's the same...

So it's a live proctor? How annoying!

It does seem that's the case, based on the two links I posted above as well. They probably want to confirm your identity and that no one else is sprechen el espańolito for you.
GoToMeeting seems like a drop-in replacement for LogMeIn, so I'm not surprised. Kind of an odd choice in my opinion though, and I'm not extremely comfortable handing over full control of my PC to anyone, so I just use a dedicated testing machine that has nothing on it.
