Question about ALEKS

I see ALEKS talked about on here a lot, and though I am familiar with it (brushing up on math 102 in preparation for College Math on there now) because my wife uses it for her job, I was wondering what yall mean by schools accepting ALEKS credits. Can you really just sign up for it and take it and send the results to a school like a CLEP test? Or is it an online class through the big 3?

Yes, we can take an ALEKS math course(s) for $20 per month, add it to our ACE transcript, and send it for credit to a Big 3 or other college that accepts ACE. (Always double-check with your school.) With a few exceptions (like TESC does not accept Beginning Algebra), here is the list of ACE approved courses offered by ALEKS:

EC accepts the all (but all three stats are considered the same course by EC). IT degrees can only have 9 credits in math below calculus, stats doesn't count so you can get 12 credits from ALEKS if doing an IT degree with EC (I did).

Good point! That's a great way to get the maximum math credit in ECs School of Liberal Arts too. Also, ALEKS Stats counts as UL credit, so you can create a depth in math with 3 ALEKS Math + 1 ALEKS Stats courses.

For the sake of comparison, TESC has the same policy regarding the stats courses except if you are getting a BSBA (business admin degree) then Intro Stats counts as the required mathematical statistics class, and Business Stats counts as Operations Management, a business elective. So you can take two very similar classes and get two separate credits for it, but only through a business degree at TESC.

Also, TESC's BSBA program requires pre-calculus, and TESC accepts ALEKS trigonometry as filling that requirement. But you can't also do pre-cal to get extra credit, of course.

Off the top of my head I'm pretty sure TESC also has a 9-credit limit on math below calculus just like EC, but I can't recall if you can have credits spill over into gen ed electives, so you should look it up or ask them to be sure.

I guess technically you could get 15 credits from ALEKS going the BSBA route at TESC. I'm not doing that myself so I may be wrong. But if right it looks like this:
