Production/Operations Management and Business Policy advice for Excelsior
are the exams proctored or can you take them where/whenever?
I never had a proctored exam for the 311 course.
Thanks to all the feedback and support here in the forums, I finished my Operations Management MGMT 311 at CSU Pueblo with an A! True to the comments, the professor was very nice, accommodating (they started using the newer 9th edition, but he let me use the cheaper 8th edition instead) and extremely responsive. It took me about 3 months to finish, although I kinda sat on it for 2 months without working on it. Overall, a very good experience.

ECE Organizational Behavior next, then Business Policy and I AM DONE!! The end is in sight!! hilarious

It's good to see another person take advantage of this Production/Operations Management opportunity. It was the right course for me, no doubtBig Grin .

About the Excel OM software...has anybody had any success using Open Office Calc for this? The file does open for me with Calc, but I do not know if everything works the way it is supposed to. That and parts of it look like trash, and I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like that...

I've just started on this thing today. Wish me luck, everyone!

Edit: Answered my own question; no, it doesn't work the same. I got a trial copy of Office 2007, so that will work for the duration of the class. Never mind!

I'm working on this course now. Prof is very positive as described above. No weekly discussion posts! CSU courses are worth considering for that alone.

NB course has moved strictly to the 9th ed of the book.

This is a pretty fun course. Whereas Barcotta has posted an account of getting through the class quickly & efficiently, I am doing it inefficiently but fitting it around other classes, which also works fairly well.

What's kind of funny is about 11 years ago I was going through an old roommate's castoffs (I bought the house we both lived in and threw out a lot of stuff; the house had been a rental for about 30 years) and I ran across an operations management text. I thumbed through it, and though a lot of it was as Greek, I said to myself "One day I'm going to master this." I'm on Exam 3, and taking a 400-level class in Supply Chain, so, I'm about there. It's just college. You can do it, too.

Hi,

Thank you for the post. I've just done the first quarter of this course without using excel OM... is this normal? Will I have to use it down the road in this course?

Thanks :-)

If I remember correctly, the OM software didn't really come into play until the last couple of exams. The Excel software works for some of the questions and the Windows software works for some of the other questions. The two programs don't necessarily overlap each other all the time. Check the pull-down menus to see which software applies to the particular question. Don't worry too much. If you can fill out the form with given information, it will create the graphs and charts.
