Production/Operations Management and Business Policy advice for Excelsior
#61
Business Strategy?! dratz.. so, I guess that means 7 exams left. Confusedighs:

I am trying to be cheap and figured on registering at ECE once I finished the requirements (to avoid the fees for getting addl credits added to my record once I take addl exams.) I don't know if this was such a good idea now.

I have six/(maybe 7) exams left, is time for me to register?

This Operations Management course at Pueblo looks to be a God-send, I think I will register for it once the prof gets back at the end of July.

Would my registering before September 1st (if possible) exempt me from Business Strategy?

Hi decall,

You're coming down the home stretch!! Good for you!!! Should you register at Excelsior now? I am not quite sure whether you are talking about applying or enrolling. But, if you haven't applied, I think that you should. That way you can begin accumulating all of your transcripts at Excelsior and get some idea of where you stand.
I don't know how agressive you are studying and taking exams, but I would say, in my own personal opinion, now may be about the best time to enroll. Here are a few reasons:

You may find out that your existing credits won't fall in the categories you think they should. (You don't want to take exams you don't need)

You may possibly have a legitimate appeal situation. Or, they may need further information about your courses in order to apply them to your status report.(That will take extra time)

The enrollment process takes 2-8 weeks, give or take.

You may need advisement regarding upcoming exams.

You may need to have your future courses/exams approved ahead of time.
...just to name a few reasons.

Of course, I/we don't know your personal situation; so use your own best judgement. It seems to me that there comes a point where the scales tip from worrying whether you can complete the rest of the program in a year to the point where you know you can and you need Excelsior to take care of things on their end and to guide you the rest of the way.

I think of it like an air-traffic-controller...

You can pilot your plane all by yourself from coast to coast if you have a good bearing, but as you approach your destination, you're going to need to the tower to bring you in for a safe landing.

Oh, about Business Policy capstone course/exam... There's no getting around it. You can take it anywhere that is approved, unless you miss the deadline for enrolling at Excelsior. If you miss the deadline, you will have to take the course through Excelsior exclusively. That's the way I understood it when Kiwi Lover explained it in a recent post in this forum somewhere. Kiwi Lover knows her stuff and she tells it like it is. BUT, your best bet is always to get the latest and greatest information directly from Excelsior.

... just one opinion from a peer. I hope you find it supplimental to all the other information you can gather on this forum.Smile

Hi All,

I just got my grade back for Colorado State University's "Operations Management" course (MGMT 311).

It took me about a month to complete all 18 assignments and the four exams (take home, open book).

It was a chellenging course, made moreso because the professor was away on vacation for the entire month it took me to complete the coursework. However, the fact that I was able to complete the course without any input or feedback from the professor, should tell you that this course is definitely nothing to be afraid of.

My professor came back from his vacation today and immediately set about grading all my work...I ended up with an A. Yippee!
hilarious

FYI:
Astonishingly, it looks like the cost of all CSU online courses went up from $297 to $417. I don't know when this happened, but it is quite a significant price jump. I must have just made it into the course before they changed their prices.

Anyway, if anybody is considering taking the OM course at CSU, I would certainly recommend it to you (except that the cost might more of an issue now).

Best of luck,
Snazzlefrag

I have no idea when I'll be finished. These are the first credits I have earned since last October.

Unfortunately, I missed the deadline to enroll in the Psych degree under the old rules. As a result, I have to complete BioPsych and History & Systems courses.

I am just taking things one step at a time for now. I'll be finished round about the time that I am finished....right? As my good friend Dory always says, "Just keep swimming...just keep swimming".
hilarious

Thanks for the congratulations....it feels good to finally make a little bit of progress again after such a long period of dormancy.

Next up will likely be an English Comp course to fulfill the WER at Excelsior. I am thinking of doing either the CSU course or the University of Idaho. The UI course is $325 instead of $417, and it is a simple pass/fail.

We'll see,

Congrats on your A, Rob. I am glad that you had a good experience with the course. The professor said that they would find a way to deal with too many new students. I was thinking "more professors"... they must have been thinking "higher tuition". Rolleyes

Anyway, I'm happy for you. Keep us posted with the W.E.R. course.Smile
