So, as some of you know my eventual goal is to earn an RA doctorate so that I can leave EMS and the fire service behind and go into academia or the government full time. I already have a MS and a grad cert and BJ helpfully suggested I complete a UK Level 8 diploma in leadership to try and "ladder" into a doctorate.
I wanted to post here to say that the idea while good in theory is not panning out. Thus far, I have contacted several schools and want to share the results. 1) Valdosta. Contacted regarding the DPA and asked about transfer credit. Valdosta will not commit to accepting it for any credit whatsoever as they consider it a "completed" program. They only accept for credit any doctorate level classes that have not led to a finished degree/diploma/certificate.
2) LSU online. Contacted regarding the EdD in Leadership with an emergency management focus. They will only count the entire level 8 diploma for a single class.
3) Middle Georgia, will not accept it for credit as it is a "completed" program.
4) Waiting to hear back from SIU in Illinois.
5) Waiting to hear from American College of Education in Indiana.
My point is, most schools claim they will not give transfer credit as it is a "completed credential". Further, no one will give me ABD standing. While it seemed like a good idea,I have had no success in getting a positive reply. Now I admit that I am not contacting Liberty, Walden, Columbia Southern, or some of the others. With academia as my goal, they do not seem like ideal schools.
Has anyone here ACTUALLY done a Level 8 from the UK and gotten into a US doctorate program?

I might recommend checking with Capitol Technology University since they are based off the UK model.

It would likely be best to stick with UK schools or schools based off of the UK model. Those schools will likely accept the UK Level 8 diploma in leadership without question. Baker College which is an online college in Michigan may be a good option as they are open to accepting any courses at the doctoral level for ABD status students towards a DBA.

Has anyone here ACTUALLY done a Level 8 from the UK and gotten into a US doctorate program? This was my concern with the UK Level 8 hen it was first mentioned as well. I don't know of any US uni that will accept it as equal to their course or in lieu of coursework. Other than giving the student the mental status of doing doctoral level work, and preparation by doing that level of writing prior to enrollment at a Doctoral degree program, I didn't see the point of doing it at all. Liberty offers their Executive Certs that carry over fully to the corresponding doctorate, so if that was the intent, the Exec Cert seems to have more value.

Appreciate the thought but CapTech is far too expensive.
I'll be paying as I go and have a hard $25,000 limit.

Try Marywood University and National University they offer ABD and might accept a UK level 8 diploma ? I know University of the Cumberlands accepts masters credits towards a doctoral program but not sure about age limit on credits.

Agree. Instead of trying to do a UK Level 8 Diplomas and then transfer it over to the US. Why don't you just get the doctorate from the UK? There are some very good schools in the UK that are far more affordable than the sub-par very expensive schools in the US. I don't understand the logic of US only.

Almost all of their doctoral programs allow up to 42 transfer credits, you need to pay $18,000 total tuition, if Capital Tech allows to transfer all the credits.

Have you looked at this offer?
I looked for DBA/PHD Top-up degrees in developed countries a while back. While a DBA might not be ideal for academia, this is nontheless a regionally accredited doctorate degree from an American university (Westcliff University).
Through this provider, it is offered as a pathway including the Level 8 diploma at a good price.

Red flag for me Sir...
On the page the link sent me to, they claim to be located in California USA, but that the courses are taught by an English university. However another page indicates they are located in the Middle East.
