I enrolled at UMPI on September 13th for the October 24th start date,  The deadline for enrollment was October 4th.  On October 3rd, I called and someone named Barb confirmed that they had received all of my transcripts and she said that my application would be processed in the next week or so.
I didn't want to keep bothering them so I waited to hear from them and no one called or sent me an email.
I finally sent Jessica an email yesterday, October 19th to find out the status of my enrollment,  Jessica replied today that my application was never processed and now it's too late to begin the October 24th start date.  I will have to defer to the January, 2023 start date.
What?
I could just cry.  I quit my job so I could spend the next few months going to school full-time.  I cannot afford to wait until January, 2023.
I have sent repeated emails to Jessica, but I just get a canned response that says it is too late and there is nothing they can do.  Outside of sending an email directly the the Chancellor, I just don't know what more I could do.
Please let me know if there is anything more I can do.  I had my heart set on UMPI.  I even bought their school logo shirts - I was that excited.

I hadn't even explored other competency based schools because I had my heart set on UMPI.  Thanks for reading.  I am SO distraught right now.

welcome to the club, what they did to my wife as well.

Here's an example template I created for a triple minor to illustrate what I mean if you can proceed further.  Start the courses other than the Sophia.org/Study.com in this spreadsheet for the triple minor.  That's it if you have the opportunity to start anything, you're not asking to take courses that "duplicate" what you already have.  You take remaining courses first and transfer the rest in after starting the 1st course with permission.

Again, with the option to start, take courses you need not repeat your previous credits, as I mentioned in the earlier post, you'll transfer them in while you're taking courses towards the degree.  Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing  Lastly, I think you were speaking with those enrollment counselors. There is no "Barb" in the admissions crew: https://www.umpi.edu/admissions/admissions-crew/

Oh, and you're not micromanaging anyone, you're just "following up" with your application and making sure your evaluations are taken properly at the correct levels.  If you want, you can try WGU and see if you can finish their degree in Business.  They don't take too many general education courses, but it's a free application, just pay for transcripts.  Another option is Excelsior as they also have free applications and they take ACE/NCCRS, just 7 residency credits, and TESU if you want...

they would not let my wife start and pick her courses, she asked.

UMPI is honey badger about the aspiring students they drop the ball on.
Cerich67:  Oh my goodness.  I am somewhat relieved that I am not alone in this group, but also so sorry for what happened to your wife.  Do you mind telling me if she decided to go to another school, or did she wait until the following session at UMPI? ....  And did they handle her enrollment well the next time around?
I quit my job so I could attend UMPI full-time, but I can't be unemployed for the next 3 months with nothing accomplished toward my bachelors.  I don't know if I should try to go back to work for the next three months and give UMPI the benefit of the doubt, or just move on to another school.
I feel very rejected by UMPI right now.

My wife in in same situation, she got offered a new job that starts in January so quit her current one early to concentrate on this. The new job is predicated on having a degree as well. It's VERY upsetting and just so unnecessary. You would think they would have bent just a bit when it clearly shows that UMPI dropped the ball, but nope.

Right now, looking at options, the sophia and study she did to bring in 90 CH won't work near as well at WGU, we are thinking EU but will take longer.. but all of this hinges on her discussion with the new boss she is having mid next week, if the offer stands, can be pushed or not etc. It she does start work in Jan, than CBE may be off the table because time constraints with job , family and school. If her new employer rescinds job offer, then obviously will have time, she may hate UMPI forever however. It's more complicated because it's an overseas job and her new employer has done immigration stuff, we moved, our daughter in school here now etc. It's basically a UMPI induced s^&t show. I am taking a years sabbatical to work on my DBA and when this came up for her it sounded like a fun family adventure for a year, it still will be but heavier on the uncertainty part of adventure than planned.

For the folks saying to bug UMPI, yeah, that made not a bit of difference in this case, they hardly never returned emails, or calls, missed scheduled calls and the whole bit. growth can really be painful for any company, but they have REALLY managed it poorly

Oh, wow.  It sounds as though you and your wife upended your lives even more than I did.  I am so sorry that happened to you.  It doesn't give me much hope that I will fare any better with UMPI.  Please feel free to PM me with updates on how everything works out for your wife.  I really feel as though I share this journey with her.  Thanks again for replying to my post.  I think this is bringing out some really important information about this school that I was completely unaware of.
I called NAU (Northern Arizona University) yesterday for more information about their CBE program.  The first person I spoke with (a student) didn't even know what I was talking about.  She transferred me to someone else who really couldn't answer many of my questions.  Sigh.  That is so disappointing.  Today, I have received several calls from one of the NAU enrollment advisors.  I assume this is just a salesperson.  It would be nice to talk to someone who is actually enrolled in or graduated from the NAU CBE program.  NAU might be of benefit to me because I live in Arizona, so NAU has name recognition here with employers.
Did your wife ever look into NAU?

They're having growing pains. But, it shouldn't come at a cost of new students not being able to learn.

I 100% recommend sending a flat email out to the Dean or Jessica saying "I have been waiting for X months, but, my evaluation isn't done. How about I start 2 classes, we know I don't have, while we wait for the evaluation"

Actually, I'd kind of recommend it for people in a high stress job and want to accelerate faster now. UMPI's financial aid office as a Financial Judgement. If you "lost" your job, they can modify your EFC to get you the Pell.
Ashkir:  Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  The last thing I ever expected was for my enrollment to get lost by a glitch or someone overlooking my application.  I was worried that my degree audit would come back with my old community college credits from the 1990's possibly being rejected, but this mess .... I NEVER expected - and the reaction from the staff is even more confounding.  I begged Jessica not to dismiss me, and she has just stopped responding to my emails.  I have been professional and not rude in any way, but she and another girl named Shea have just completely dismissed me.
Bjcheung recommended to do something similar with the recommendation to allow me to take some classes while my transcript is evaluated.  I am hoping the Chancellor calls or emails me back so I can have this discussion with her directly, but after reading about the experience that Cerich67's wife had, I am slowly losing hope.   Thanks again for responding.

Even UMPI having not had time to go thru transfer credits, there is no reason to not let start and let the student pick classes. It's not like anyone is going to trick the system and graduate before everything is sorted and an audit done anyhow.

It's just seems like overworked and overwhelmed staff in a program that is growing too fast and they are reaching burnout or something.

It's a shame, and I am not going to attribute it to malice, but it is a leadership failure in a variety of fashions. It will eventually slow down the work load, not in a good way for them however..

On another note, NAU hides what they charge per 6 month term pretty well. I found one flyer no date said $3,500, on the student aid they said $3100 but  tuition page doesn't specify online or CBE online and it is 11k and change a year...

Anyone know what it is?

Anyone have a degree plan with sophia transfer credits or sdc?

The BALS sure has a bunch of spanish, the BSLS is star grazing..LOL

NAU is a good choice, but their transfers are limiting, I would check out UMASS Global instead (formerly known as Brandman), they have several offerings available from 1 Associates, a few Bachelors, and up to 1 Masters. Programs link: https://www.umassglobal.edu/why-umassglo...self-paced

UMass is a great choice. Many of the courses were designed by Sagence were white label and sold to Brandman (UMass) and UMPI.

I agree. NAU's CBE program is a big mystery. No one seems to know the exact tuition amount, whether or not there is an application fee for the program, how many credits can be transferred in, or what credits they accept. I have not found a single person that has attended. I read a few negative online reviews that were several years old indicating that professors take weeks to grade papers, and/or never reply to student questions.
It doesn't paint NAU in a good light, unfortunately.
Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions and advice.

I think you were dealing with the enrollment specialists and that's the problem. They suck. The admissions process does require one to stay on top of it and contact UMPI directly to make sure the YourPace staff has everything needed. Shea checked on that for me. UMPI no longer processes the applications. The U of M system started processing the applications back for the Fall 2021 semester. It really dragged out the process. This was a consolidation that the U of M system made. It wasn't UMPi who made it. The system has consolidated several things to help reduce costs. I just wish the enrollment specialists would be sent packing and actual in house staff were hired for this position so they could be useful. They could actually really something about YourPace and know who to contact and have the ability to directly contact them.

I hope you are able to figure out something for your wife. EU will take at least a semester. Cornerstone is 8 weeks and then Capstone is 8 weeks. So you need a full semester as they can't be taken together. She may want to spend the weekend reviewing what she has completed and if EU has a degree that will work for her.

NAU only has a handful of CBE programs. They are not nearly as accepting of ACE credits as UMPI. There have been a few on here who applied and I think 1 or 2 who started. I don't know if anyone on here has graduated from NAU's CBE programs.

I'm kind of surprised after all that has happened, that Jessica and Shea have become unresponsive. I'm guessing that they are overwhelmed...but it leads me to believe that this program is going to become less popular on this forum as this happens to more and more people.

On the flip side, I think people let things slide way too much. They assume that they can wait weeks and weeks for things to happen and then the deadline looms and they start getting desperate.

If I'm advising people from this point forward, I'm going to say that they need to apply at least 2 months before the deadline, and then babysit their applications, the evals, every step...until they know they are in and everything is done. Until that time, do NOT quit your job or do anything drastic. That's just crazy. You cannot quit your job in the hopes that you get in and everything works out, you have to plan for unforeseen circumstances to pop up and make your plans accordingly.

But again, I place the blame on UMPI being overwhelmed, and don't expect that things are going to get better, since they seem to have gotten worse there over the last year in many respects. I will still recommend them, for now...
