I tried to explain but they said a score of 500 or higher is necessary to earn the credit. I even ask them to compare the grading system. However, the rule is " 50 or higher for the old test and 500 or higher for the new grading system."

I studied my head out for all the test.

The policy is asking for a score that isn't even possible. It is just a misunderstanding. There must be a way to get this sorted out.

Vicky.. so sorry for all this stress. You are a paying student and have a right to good customer service. Just because you're in school doesn't mean that they can treat you like you're in junior high! I believe that you will need to talk to the registrar, or at least that is who made those decisions at COSC. Often times you don't even need to ask permission, you can look up the registrar on the school web site or even just call in the main number and ask to talk. You don't have to give your name. You can just say "I'm a student with a question that wasn't getting answered by my advisor."

I really do think that they are wrong as it's almost impossible to get a perfect score. You did a great job and have a score to be proud of! Just make sure you stick to your guns and DON'T give up!!! You can get this fixed or maybe it's time to look into the Big 3...

Registra asks me to speak to my academic advisor, they said that once enrolled, he is the one deciding how much transfer credit to grant me.

is there something i can do meanwhile,? posting on their face book?

It's a misunderstanding on your school's part. I would agree with the previous advice which was to take the customer service approach. Put all the information together, demonstrate the difference between the new and old tests and send the information in. Clearly state that the scoring is vastly different in the new tests and that a 500 score is the maximum possible score; it's a perfect, 100% score (probably might be worth throwing in that a 500 is equivalent to scoring at or above the 99th percentile, although the weighting system for DSSTs doesn't exactly work like this it should get your point across).

Request that you receive a response in say, 14 days. Then depending on what you get back, either accept your well-deserved credits or escalate your query up the food chain.

Meanwhile, concentrate on getting some more top scores

This is the letter I wrote to the admission department, who according to my counselor is the one who should be handling the problem:


On May 25, 2011, I took DSST Principles of Finance Exam and received a score of 456 with the passing score being 400.

Yesterday, I received a letter from CPS Offfice of Admissions. The letter stated that "I have not been awarded of any transfer credits because a score of 500 or higher is necessary." I believe there might have been some miunderstanding with the new DSST grading system. According to the spread sheet from the DSST offcial website, http://www.getcollegecredit.com/download...100108.pdf, it says: "Score Scales & Score Reporting
The new score scale introduced for the 2008 and later updated exams uses scores ranging from 200 to 500, with the cut score (pass point) set at 400 for all exams." In fact, 500 is the highest grade and there is no score higher than 500 possible. And if we were to convert the score using the traditional grading system, which can be found in the bottom of the pdf, it shows that a score of 432 on Principles of Finance is equivalent to a score of 53 using the traditional grading system. Since CPS accepts DSST test score with a 50 or higher, therefore I am kindly asking the Office of Admissions to reevaluate my test and grant me the appropriate transfer credits.


This is the response I got:
Ms. Annalee Collins in CPS forwarded me your recent messages from CPS-Adviser regarding your score on the DSST exam for Principles of Finance. As you are aware, I confirmed with our admissions office as well as Mr. Neff Casaburri, Senior Academic and Student Support Specialist, that CPS requires a score of 500 or higher on the DSST exam for credit.

CPS does not accept scores under 500. This was confirmed with the Assistant Director Neff Casaburri.

I did not submit this form because the test score was sent directly to the school after I took the test.

The official response : a score of 500 or higher is necessary, therefore we award you 0 credit.

Whenever I called, they asked me to speak to my acadmic advisor. And when I emailed his supervisor, the result is the same.

I called DSST and asked if they can convert the score to the old grading system. The lady said they can't do that. It is school's fault not to upgrade their transfer credit system. There is nothing DSST can do.
