Planning For The Future

Makes sense, and I truly appreciate all the work you put into those guides. Also, it looks like you a racking up quite a few academic honors there! Congratulations!

Oh, I agree. Like I said, it makes sense. Just trips people up. Probably because some of us (well, me at least) were looking for an easy print and go plan

Hi Everyone,

So I spent an hour or two over last evening and this morning putting together a plan of action for tests/courses. I think I am pretty sound with the overall structure and have included the 3 courses I actually passed in community college as transfers where I felt they were appropriate.

Please let me know if there are any suggested changes. Everything except the capstone is either test or online-course to test based.

I gave it a quick look.

You have some courses in the free electives that can go into your major, you also seem to have a 3 credit overage. I will try to put your credits in a spreadsheet I made that is a little easier to read and track. Can you share which courses in that plan have already been completed?

For the Align Degree website, I tried that site before and when you try to apply for a class it states that it was removed by the instructor. You should probably call the site owner and see what is up with it.

Thank you for taking a look. The only courses I have completed are the ones that say MCC transfer. (MCC = Manchester Community College) I am quite literally starting from the beginning minus those courses.

As for the 3 Credit overage, I went specifically with the requirements as laid out on TESC's Communications page. Not sure if their math is wrong or mine is wrong.

The Align site has the courses properly listed in a different location. The links in my sheet bring you to that location. However, if you wouldn't trust the Align site for that reason, I am open to alternatives, being that they might be cheaper.

The reason why some of the courses are in my Free Electives rather than my major is because I had to have 18 credits of Upper Level communications courses in my major. The communication courses in Free Electives are not Upper Level, hence having to be placed elsewhere.

Don't let that scare you off...I started seven years ago (at the age of 50) and am graduating from COSC this Sunday. There was at least one year long gap due to family and job crisis, but I kept coming back. Checking back with this site, even when I was at my lowest point, kept me interested, and wanting to keep going. That first 6-credit CLEP will boost your ego...I started with humanities, studied like a fiend, and when it was done realized that most of what I knew had been gained from a lifetime of being an avid reader, art lover and music fan.QUOTE=ctlw83;188013]I'll just have to figure out what my pacing will look like on average and such. I know some tests/courses will be harder than others and some cost more than others. It will also be about consolidating courses from places like StraighterLine into as small a time frame as possible so as to reduce monthly costs. Some of the CLEP 6-credit courses, though difficult, seem VERY attractive.

My other problem is personal fortitude. I tend to get excited about something and then the energy disappears. I will have to be fully dedicated to this for as long as it takes. That is hard for me.[/QUOTE]

Take a look at this. I can give you my spreadsheet if you want also. It's just not as busy. But of course, feel free to use whatever is easier for you.

I added Analyzing & Interpreting Literature because it is the consensus easiest exam and it is good for 6 credits. I removed General Anthropology because DSST has put that course on indefinite hold, and I placed Sociology in that spot.

It took out some of your courses and replaced them with ALEKS and the Kaplan PLA exam. Kaplan is free and ALEKS will only cost you $20 a month plus the cost of the ACE transcript. Make sure you don't overlap with the math class you already completed.

You didn't have 24 TESC credits, so I took the liberty of substituting some of the courses for TECEPs. This will save you several thousand dollars and shouldn't add to your completion time.

I took the align courses out (because they are basically unknown by the forum and the site seems sketchy to me personally), but after reading your post, if you prefer them, go ahead and plug them back in. This is YOUR education, not mine.

I moved marketing comm in the area of study since it is a communications course I also added the TECEP Negotiation & Conflict Management. Very that the course will be accepted as a Comm course. I left Sophia Visual learning in there, but I will warn you that my wife had a hard time with the course due to issues with the website/course design, so tread lightly with that one.

You have some courses that overlap and can be replaced elsewhere, but like I said, this is your education so I left them in there.

Check through the site and with free-clep-prep.com because you picked some courses in there that are generally harder, and you may be able to make it easier on yourself.

One of the best parts of the big 3 is how customizable the types of credit you can plug in and make it your own. So have fun with it. Good luck!

Thanks for the breakdown! I'll probably go with your suggested changes unless someone tells me otherwise.

There are a few things I was wondering about:
24 credits being from TESC, I'm guessing that is some kind of requirement on their side?
When should I register with the college itself? Should I get all my CLEP, ACE, and DSST stuff out of the way first and then enroll and take the TECEPs?
ALEKS seems to have multiple math courses so, I should just pick one that doesn't overlap?
Also wonky on the PLA course. Not sure what it is so, will have to look into it.

Thanks Again,
Chris
