Pierpont & NA credits
#1
I've just received word from another forum member that Pierpont does accept NA credits. They transferred credits from a NA school and Pierpont took them all as meeting the "RA credit" requirement.

Just to make sure this wasn't a random fluke, I went to the Pierpont site to see what they have to say about transfer credits. https://catalog.pierpont.edu/content.php...fer-credit

Quote:The institution follows the guidelines in WVCTCS Series 17, “Transferability of Credits and Grades at the Undergraduate Level”. The Series establishes guidelines for the transferability of credits and grades for WV public and private post-secondary colleges and universities.

Okay, but what's that? A quick Google search led to this document: https://www.wvhepc.edu/wp-content/upload...-11-24.pdf It's boring and mostly irrelevant to students on this forum, but I did find this bit:

Quote:Institutional practice is to ensure that students may transfer and apply toward the requirements for a degree the maximum number of credits earned at an institution that is accredited by a regional, national, programmatic or other accredited body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with no additional requirements or as few requirements to repeat courses or to take additional courses above those required by a native student to complete the degree, as is consistent with sound academic policy.

Which seems to mean that neither Pierpont nor West Virginia itself make a distinction between NA and RA - as long as it's reasonable to do so. And students who have UoPeople or even (possibly) ancient ITT Tech credits shouldn't have to pay for the $25 ASU class. As long as the credits are graded, they should be good.

That's great, an interesting share indeed, if that's the case, an example also would be my three old Penn Foster courses (but they were ACE recommended for credit back then). Thanks

It was me. I didn't want to say anything publicly at first just in case it was indeed a fluke but seeing the documentation that Rachel unearthed puts me at ease.

So yeah, this seems to open things up quite a bit where it might not have been known to be open before!

They accepted NA from Sanford Brown last year. GF was able to put a medical careers focus on her Pierpont Degree because of it.

It's great the NA credits will go toward a Pierpont BOG AAS, I wonder if these credits will be upgradable for those who want to continue to a degree at UMPI, for example, their BAS/BLS with a minor or two of their choice. Hopefully UMPI will take them as they've taken a few others such as their partnership with Beal Univ...
