Pierpont BOG IS concentration to UMPI BAS with minors
#31
There are a lot of caveats and side notes when it comes to immigration. A lot of stuff depends on the countries in question and the official(s) you're dealing with. However, generally speaking, I would never recommend either a BLS or a BAS for the purposes of immigration. I am not a lawyer, and it's probably best to discuss this with one, but immigration officials are almost always looking for a degree that is specific and required for a particular position. Master's degrees are often preferred, but the Bachelor's degree may also be important.

Also, the "worse" your country is viewed by immigration, the "better" your degree needs to be. Students from some European countries face very little scrutiny, relatively speaking, when trying to move to the U.S. A BAS probably wouldn't work for them anyway, but it might if it was one they'd held for a long time before beginning the immigration process. Students moving from Asian countries are more likely to need STEM degrees (Computer Science, Math, etc.) to move to the U.S.

If a student is getting a degree solely to immigrate, faster/easier may wind up costing more time and money in the long run.

The categories 'what helps you with immigration' and 'what helps you get a skilled professional job offer' overlap often.

BAS vs BLS noted here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid399488 - What's not mentioned, the main reason is you can take the 18 UL anywhere, doesn't matter if it's within the minor or not for the BAS, the BLS has requirements for where the 24 credits go. Not only do you have less UL requirements, but much more flexibility on where to get them.

BAS, BLS, and any other degree would be fine for education, employment, immigration purposes for individuals already in the US. Most international positions don't really care if you already have a degree. There are specific degrees that get you more points, but you can negate that with a Masters degree, which also has tiers of points... All in all, it's the 'full package' of the application that counts, not just the degree.

Have you looked into WGU?

Many CompTIA certs are included in the degree program, so you could save money if you're able to pass them all and graduate within a single six-month term.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the good information. I was able to get all this completed within a 6 month period. I submitted all my transcripts to Pierpont Community & Technical College
via email: ESprocessing@pierpont.edu on 12/07/2023.

I still not sure if I should go for my Cybersecurity and Information Assurance Degree at WGU, UMPI or just start studying for my CompTia (ITF+, A+, NETWORK+, SECURITY+) Certificates. Then just focus on getting the experience in IT since I will be moving into a new field of work. "UMPI or just start studying for my CompTia" You can go for the UMPI BAS with a minor or two, and also take the 3-4 classes that can exempt/transfer into the MAOL. You can also work on the trifecta of certs, degree, experience... mix/match to your personal balance that you feel fit or need/want.

That some list!  Congrats on that.

I just completed the Network Assurance and Digital Forensics courses and the certs say .5 credits for the Net Assurance course and .7 credits for the Dig. Forensics course. Did something change? I see you have 2 credits for each of those.

The numbers you’re seeing on the certs are continuing education hours. The Credly ACE credits will match the list above as they are college credit recommendations.
