Pierpont BOG AAS to UMPI BAS-MIS
#1
Hello! Was recommended to this site by a coworker, and so glad to be here. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated  Smile

Goal(s):

Pierpont BOG AAS
UMPI BAS - Minor: Management Information Systems

Current Credits: None
Order of priority: Cost, Ease/Speed are somewhat equal (path of least resistance)
Location: US
Other: Need degree in order to advance career. Many years IT experience (10+), no current certifications. No plan/goal of going beyond bachelor.

Once Pierpont BOG AAS completed I'd to complete UMPI in two terms, I do want the BAS vs BLS, which is why I'm looking to get the BOG first. From what I have gathered Sophia is the place to start, and I should hold off on Comp II for UMPI. Don't take PM at Sophia if I have any thoughts of adding a second minor of PM at UMPI (maybe, but unlikely). Is there a wiki page for the BOG AAS to UMPI BAS that I may have missed?

There is not a Pierpont -> UMPI page on the wiki, but that's not a bad idea! I assume you've already seen https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC for the BOG AAS? If you're going to UMPI, definitely don't take any English Comp at Sophia. I would strongly suggest Visual Communication & Communication at work for the Pierpont English requirement.

Since you have a lot of IT experience, I would also suggest going for the Google IT Support Profesional certificate on Coursera to get a concentration in Information systems. You don't have to, of course, but it can be nice to have. Plus, that Google certificate gives you 12 credits at Pierpont for $40 or potentially FREE if you're able to finish it before 7 days is up. Not a bad deal, IMO! Not everyone can finish in 7 days, but it's possible if you're able to watch the videos at 2x speed or skip videos on previously known topics entirely.

For the graded credit, definitely head over to ASU and sign up for this class: https://ea.asu.edu/courses/business-tech...s-cis-194/ You should be able to complete it in 1-2 days, especially if you don't have to (re)watch the videos. It's the first part of the Coursera certificate, but it'll give you 1 graded RA credit (instead of alternate/ACE credit), which Pierpont requires. Sign up for ASU ASAP because it can take 3-5 business days for you to get your login information. This is currently the fastest/cheapest way to get graded credit for Pierpont. The next cheapest would be to do a course at ONU for $150: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Ol...University
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

If you plan out the BAS (or BLS), you just then need to make sure you've covered the requirements for the AAS.

But really, I'm not sure why you care whether it's the BLS or BAS, I don't think it makes a difference. And, to get the AAS first, you'd need 12cr RA - and I think you're much better off doing the Sophia to UMPI option, adding in the foreign language, and then going straight to the BLS/MIS degree and not worrying about RA credits.

I usually only advise the AAS if you already have 12cr of RA, if you're close to getting it anyway, and if it's not going to create ANY extra work. This does create extra work (you have to take English Comp I for instance - and it's easier/faster to just do it at UMPI, instead of Sophia or Study.com or CLEP).

All the content can be skipped. Only the required quizzes/labs/assignments count toward completion. And the papers don't appear to be graded/reviewed (I did my best anyway, just to be sure).

That's the idea, at least. Those of us who completed it on January 11th are still waiting. Supposedly today is the day, though!

IMO, if you're working in a technical field, Applied Sciences sounds a bit better than Liberal Studies, even though they might be nearly identical. If I had to choose between the two, and the difference was only a little longer to wait and an extra $25 or so, I'd definitely choose the BAS!

True, I forgot about TEL's 1-credit courses. But they all have two proctored exams, IIRC, which isn't always great for speed or ease.

Sure, it "sounds" better - if your employer cares at all.  If they don't, then I wouldn't let me slow this down at all.

If you're going to do an RA course, I'm going to go with ONU.  I've heard nothing but good things there - and not all positive regarding the TEL courses.

OP, I was able to complete the Google IT Support Professional certificate in under 7 days with 10+ years in IT like you. Also went with the BOG but already had 45 credits from community college.

Since you're not the first one to show interest, a degree plan has been created: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pi...egree_Plan

This plan prioritizes getting a BOG AAS as quickly as possible in order to be able to continue to UMPI as soon as it's an option. Secondary to this is meeting GEC requirements at UMPI. For instance, the plan presumes that students will get their credits for foreign language and lab science while waiting for the Pierpont degree to be conferred because these tend to be more difficult/time-consuming credits.

On behalf of myself and the others you have shown interest - Thank you!

This is awesome! I second the thanks!

It reminded me of this thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-from-UMPI

If I understand correctly, in addition to the Pierpont AAS, you can add in an AALS at UMPI on the way to the BAS? Would that be 15 credits at UMPI for the AALS, then another 15 credits for the BAS, or would it be 15 + 30 at UMPI?
