do you mean that UNISA is hackable? How fast could one get an online degree from UNISA if it is comparable to the degrees commonly spoken about on this forum?
After carefully examining the detailed feedback in the sister forum degreeinfo, I cannot classify UNISA as hackable since there is no way to expedite the process, and the program typically takes several years to complete a doctorate. Additionally, I have found only a handful of success stories, which leads me to speculate whether the program's affordability makes it easier to abandon at some point.
If you're searching for a potential alternative, I highly recommend exploring Stellenbosch University. Following thorough research, I applied and received acceptance into their doctoral program. My plan was to accomplish my doctorate with VUL and then subsequently return to Stellenbosch in late 2024. Their application process is straightforward and their communication is excellent, with an average response time of two days.
My city used to house Canada's educational agent for UNISA. I've found many mentions on the sister forum that without an educational agent, UNISA is an absolute nightmare to navigate without an agent. This was back a decade ago, UNISA seems like even more of a bureaucratic quagmire now these days.
I asked for a list of new educational agents but I never got a reply back, probably because it is an administrative quagmire.

I did some Google search but it's not clear which program is online.

On their website, they state "
- The major part of the master's degree (weight within degree) must consist of a written thesis."
Did they ask for a copy? Curious how they verify this part.

Here's a few pros of doing your postgrad degree through a South African University.
1) According to South African policy in regards to Higher Education, the minimum period of study towards a masters is 1 year, with a recommendation of 2 years (PhD minimum: 2 years, recommended: 4 years). Meaning you are able to complete your entire masters, start to finish, in one year, compared to two years for a standard masters in the US (PhD 2 years.).
2) COST: Just to give you an idea the TOTAL COST to finish an ENTIRE (may vary depending on the years you take to complete) PhD at UNISA (University of South Africa) is R27 250 P/A or equivalent to $1504,94. And no I did not mistype that. Masters are also very cheap compared to American standards. (The average cost of a PhD in the USA is between $28 000 and $55 000 P/A) https://www.idp.com/middleeast/study-in-...university.
3) South African public universities are the foreign equivalent to RA universities in America. (Any UNI recognized by CHE).
Here's a list of Universities I would recommend (from knowing the reputation of the Universities.)
1a) UCT: Here are some rankings: (1st in Africa); (THE: 160th world ranking); (QS: 237th world ranking); (US news & world reports: 109th world ranking);(Center for World University Rankings: 270th world ranking); (ShanghaiRanking's; 201-300 world ranking)
1b)UCT is widely regarded (at least in Africa) to be the "Harvard" of the Southern Hemisphere. UCT has a p/a cost of R23 370 or the equivalent to $1290,66 for a PhD, just to put finances into perspective.
1c) UCT, however does not offer online degrees (only short courses). For that cost though, I would consider doing a year abroad to study so cheaply at a Top international school.
1d) Link- https://uct.ac.za/
2) Stellenbosch University (Similar rankings to UCT, known for also having the world's best choir)- No online programs
3) University of Witwatersrand (WITS)- No online programs
4) UNISA, Public University that does offer Online Degrees as mentioned before. (UNISA also follows a system for Recognition of Prior Learning).
Feel free to ask me any questions. I loved being a UNISA student. Not the rare air of post-graduate studies . I was in a BA program -Language and Literature - Early World Civilizations (Biblical Archeology). Should you be looking to keep costs down, one thing to keep in mind is the cost of shipping from South Africa. I loved that all of my UNISA texts were written by my UNISA professors. However, said texts were only available from South Africa. The texts themselves were quite inexpensive, but the cost to have them shipped from South Africa was very dear. I don't know, A post-grad student may or may not require books shipped from South Africa, just something to consider and perhaps discuss. All of my professors were very quick to respond to my communications. However, one will learn patience should one interact with the administrative staff. "In due time." is a phrase I became very used to reading.

Has anyone applied to the PhD program at Unisa for the upcoming term? How long does it take to receive the results? Do we need to submit SAQA certificates?
For Unisa, there is a levy for students in foreign countries (R11,685 = 623 USD). I would appreciate any information on how to waive this fee.
