Peterson Tests
#1
I have never used the Peterson Tests to prep. I looked up the site and it seems to cost $20 for each one. That seems kind of steep, is there a resource for these tests I don't know about?

Yep 20 dollars is high for 20 you get two test. Most of them are harder than the actual thing but they are not bad to study with. Military takes them for free and that is probably why so many people take them.

Hi there,

Peterson's practice tests seem to be very helpful for me. They seem to be closer to the actual clep test than the REA tests, although they usually are slightly harder. They are a good choice if you decide to purchase them.

The Peterson's tests are usually a bit more detailed than the real test but I would not go into an exam without feeling pretty comfortable with my practice scores. I get them for free (and is seems that it is not too hard to find a way to do that even for non-military) but I would gladly pay $20 for them if needed.

Personally, I feel a great way to use the three practice tests is to take the first one cold. I might not even get half way through it in one sitting and might break it up over a few days when I first start studying. I just go through the questions, give it my best guess and then see how I scored. I use the answers to guide me on what I should really be focusing on when I am using my REA book. I tie that all in with my beloved IC cards and that is my favorite study package; the Peterson practice tests, REA book and the IC cards.

Then, when I have read the REA book and have a good feeling about my progress--- but most likely would not run to the testing center that day, I take the second practice test. As I am going through the test I write down the names and terms that I have no idea about so I can make my follow up study list. I look all of the terms / names / events up in my book or Google or Wiki and then add it to my study guide.

Then on the final approach to the big testing day I work over my homemade study guide until I feel that I could go and take the test the next day. I take my last Petersons practice test all at one time, totally in test mode but I wait until the evening so I am tired and not totally on top of my game and see how it all scores out. If I get a reasonable passing score and feel that I did some logical guessing when needed and nothing popped out and scared me as far as unknown terms/names/events, then I go take the test the next day or so.

I do this all in a fast weeks time and it works for me. 33 credits in less than 6 weeks time. If I did not love my husband so much, I would leave him for whoever developed the Peterson's practice exams :p

You know what? If I were you, and I got a 68 on the Peterson's test, I would go ahead and take the real exam. Since it's pass or fail, as long as you score at least above 55, you're okay. Happy testing! Big Grin
