Penn Foster Intermediate Accounting to ACE for LSU Prereq?
#11
Publius Wrote:Okay, my apologies. You are correct, it's Managerial Accounting (ACCT 2101) that is the prerequisite for Intermediate ACCT. I had that confused with Financial Acct because that is what is the prerequisite for Managerial Acct. To straighten it out,
Intermediate ACCT II - Prereq: Intermediate ACCT I
Intermediate ACCT I - Prereq: Managerial ACCT, and Business Calc
Managerial ACCT - Prereq: Financial ACCT
Financial ACCT - Prereq: None

Note on Financial accounting: LSU no longer accept the CLEP or DSST as a suitable means to fulfill the prereq.

As for a course that would satisfy the Biz Calc, I haven't looked around for one so I don't know.

No problem! Thanks for explaining all those classes. It looks like from what I can see that you are going to have to take business calculus from LSU if it's required. I don't know where else you would take it, but I'm not to up on where to take classes. When you spoke to someone about the business calc pre-req, did you talk to the actual instructor? How did you contact them? Were you enrolled yet?

Yes, I spoke with the actual instructor and she told me that the Business Calculus class was just advised and not required. I called their office at this number: 225-578-2500. LSU Independent and Distance Learning They transferred me the instructor, but I had to leave a message and she called me back (fairly quickly too... within an hour or two). If call their office and ask to speak to Sunny (I think I accidentally typed Sandy in an earlier post), or just ask for the advisor in charge of Intermediate Accounting. No, I wasn't enrolled. It may be best before actually taking the course, IF they don't require it, to get that in writing from an email. I probably wouldn't email their office, but ask the advisor over the phone to send an email stating the info.

LSU offers the class. I believe it is listed under Math.

Prloko Wrote:I was also interested in the certificate, but I believe you need to already have a bachelor's degree to get the certificate. I may be wrong.

You are correct!

I may yet try this! The person I spoke with identified himself as a Coordinator, but if his (relatively uncommon) first name is the same one I see listed on an LSU phone directory page, he is a generalist for independent study and has no specific ties to accounting or business.

Good News. I spoke with LSU and Sunny in particular. Apparently she’s the Manager of their Independent Learning office and the coordinator for ACCT 3001 (Intermediate Acct I). She confirmed that the Math requirement was a recommended prerequisite and was not required. I asked if I could get it in writing and they immediately got an email out.

Quote:Dear [My Name],

The LSU Online course, ACCT 3001. (1), requires that you complete the prerequisite courses ACCT 2101 - Intro to Managerial Accounting (or the equivalent offered through another university). Our office recommends completion of Math 1431 - Calculus with Business & Economic Applications (or the equivalent offer through another university). Without completion of Math 1431, we cannot guarantee success in this course because you may not be prepared for the terminology for the course.

If you have completed ACCT 2101, you may apply for the course ACCT 3001. (1).

Best regards,

I also confirmed that I'm not a special case and that this is standard.

@GeneralSnus - Yes, they do! Thank you!

@Publius - I also emailed LSU on Saturday and received a response today that stated the exact thing that your email stated. Managerial Accounting is required, but Business Calculus is recommended. I am keeping it saved for when I actually enroll. My email was actually worded exactly the same as yours so maybe we were both responded to by the same person. lol

That's good news! It would be a whole lot easier if they just marked that it was recommended and not required on their site and in their syllabus. However, I'm glad, either way, that this is the case. What they also may of done is just copied and pasted your email and sent it to me. Because on the phone she said right after I asked my question that she'll get an email out in 30 seconds and it was literally that fast. If she typed that out that's close to 170 words per minute which is pretty fast. It’s probably either a template or it was copied or pasted. Either way they confirmed it and it’s in writing.
