I might be done with Business Communication (MY LAST STRAIGHTERLINE COURSE! WHOO-HOO!!!!) soon if you're interested in that one.

Hello, I am currently taking ACCT 1 with STRAIGHTERLINE. I have been reading the chapters and as well doing the exercises but I really want to make sure that I pass the exams with an "A". Do you have any advice or study strategy. I appreciate all your help, God bless you!

I have also read other posts about this straighterline set of courses elsewhere on instacert, and similar advise is given, with some other great websites such as principlesofaccounting.com, and accountingcoach.com. No advice from me, sorry. I was taking it to transfer to TESC (which doesn't count the grades for those) so I didn't care. I finished the Managerial Accounting/Cost Accounting in a couple of days with a 71 or 72 and was happy.
One thing that was hard for me was that the timed tests didn't allow a lot of time for looking up answers. So one really has to kind of know what they are doing before taking the test (and not just blow it off completely because it is open book). Good luck!

To anyone fretting over these, don't. They are E A S Y. All the mathematics are basic addition/subtraction/division and looking up
the terms is a snap. If you made it through 6th grade math and can use a glossary and an index, you're set. Don't let the business-ese "newspeak" frighten you. Pay attention to the terms that "jump out" for each question. If it's asking you about whether "direct costs" are something or other, then go in the index and look up "direct costs". Skim the paragraphs and 9 times out of 10 you'll find a sentence that matches an answer. I would estimate that 80% of the questions are not asking you to compute anything or make any entries, they are simply asking you to define a term or match a process with it's characteristics. Very easy. I did not watch the lesson presentations or use any flashcards, etc. All of the exam questions come straight out of the book, so these are superfluous at best. I personally think the narrator's voice is annoying and the course would probably GIVE me ADD if I tried to follow along with all the needless crap they included. I used the old edition 18th edition of the book (7 bucks shipped on Amazon), and it worked just fine. Only minimal differences as far as I could tell. Accounting 1 took me three days to complete, Accounting 2 took one full day of taking a test, relaxing for an hour, another test, etc. The tests took me about an hour and a half each. I scored above 70% by the final exam for both courses, so I just clicked through the final exams picking randomly. The end results were grades of 85 and a 77 respectively. I actually did pick up quite a bit just by skimming, but honestly there's nothing in this course you couldn't learn by reading "Accounting Demystified" or through a few weeks of on the job training. Accounting is just a business major's way of acting like they do "hard" math. It's a needlessly overcomplicated way of saying "put this number here and add these together". Don't feel bad about 6 cheap and easy credits, just dive in and kick butt.
