Passed the Test, but my score is not good enough to get credit at my School

Hi: I passed the College Comp Modular with a 58 (passing is a 50), but my college requires a 59 to get credit. UGH! Only one point off. Wow, I'm discouraged right now. This was my first CLEP in over 20 years (had 4 others, but they are too old to count), and so I'm going to have to re-evaluate my path. If anyone has any ideas or thought or has been through this before, I would appreciate your input. Thanks.

In what state is your college? If you are in Texas, you could get another school with a lower passing score to give you transferrable credit.

Regardless of where you are, you can retake it 180 days later.

Rich people get to go through loopholes for their taxes, I should be able to do it for my CLEP exams.

You can do this in Texas when transferring credits from one public college or university to another if the language hours are considered Texas Common Core Curriculum course credits. Any deviation from these exact circumstances and the answer is no.

Can a person retake a CLEP in under 6 months with a PASSING score? I know you can't with a failing score....just musing but a thought.

It is an exam integrity issue. Whether you pass or fail, taking it again in less than 180 days is believed to be giving the test taker an advantage.

This does come up on the entrance HESI quite often. Nursing schools place limits on retakes.

There is also a possibility that the candidate can retake in 3 months, but the university granting the credit has to authorize the shorter retake period. There are specific steps that must be taken, but it has been done by a few candidates here.

I always make sure to point out to candidates who are taking any of the foreign language exams that if they passed the minimum score for Level 1, but needed the extra credits from Level 2, they still have to wait 6 months before they can retake it. It doesn't matter what score a candidate gets from their exam. The computer system is smart enough to calculate the number of months since it was last taken to determine whether this current one is a "keeper" or gets voided.
