Online accounting classes - can you help?
#31
Hope this is a good place to stick this info... Received this from tesu academic advising:

Quote:The following courses from Tennessee Technological University (TTU) are approved for your degree. For reference, the TTU courses will transfer as follows:
ACCT3170= ACC-201 Intermediate Accounting I
ACCT3180= ACC-202 Intermediate Accounting II
ACCT3170= ACC-401 Advanced Accounting I
ACCT3180= ACC-402 Advanced Accounting II
ACCT3620= ACC-411 Auditing
ACCT3210= ACC-303 Cost Accounting
ACCT4600= ACC-406 Forensic Accounting

TTU has some weird thing goin on with course numbers ACCT3170 & ACCT3180 being also assigned to two other courses under different names, even the course descriptions are different. Not sure what's up with that. And just a side note here so I don't confuse any newcomers... I already took ACC-401 through Study.com, so that particular course approval means it is accepted but would replace my current ACC-401 course.

That's really weird - ACCT3170 and ACCT3180 are both Intermediate and Advanced?

K so I heard from TTU regarding the matching course numbers for the different classes; here's what they said:
Quote:They are not separate classes. The description has changed, but ACCT 3170 and ACCT 3180 are going to be the same course this summer and in the fall.

We are in the process of changing our curriculum, and you are caught in the process of that. So it will be important that you keep in touch with your advisor or me so that we make sure you are taking the right courses.
So they don't have their course names or descriptions up to date with the changes yet; kinda annoying.

Sorry for the confusion; here's the corrected current transfer chart:
TTU ACCT3170 = TESU ACC-201 Intermediate Accounting I
TTU ACCT3180 = TESU ACC-202 Intermediate Accounting II
TTU ACCT3620 = TESU ACC-411 Auditing
TTU ACCT3210 = TESU ACC-303 Cost Accounting
TTU ACCT4600 = TESU ACC-406 Forensic Accounting

New course curriculum for the following will be effective Fall 2018; according to the new descriptions, TESU gave the following transfer course numbers:
TTU ACCT3170 = TESU ACC-401 Advanced Accounting I
TTU ACCT3180 = TESU ACC-402 Advanced Accounting II

Does that mean that starting Fall term, TTU will have no courses that transfer to TESU as Intermediate Accounting?

The email I got says "starting fall 2018, the intermediate accounting sequence will change from a two course sequence to a three course sequence." Which sounds like the current intermediate acc courses will be updated and replaced by a different intermediate acc courses as well. Or not! I'm not 100% sure; it's complicated to decipher it all, lol.

The Tennessee Tech ACCT courses appear to be a real find. I my case I Need Cost Accounting, Auditing, and Federal Taxation to complete the prereqs for a MS in Accounting at Liberty U. Since I'm a veteran, they'd cost me $250 per cr hr if I take them with Liberty, so I'm trying to determine if there is enough of a cost savings with TT to justify going with them. Accounting textbooks are always expensive, and another thing to consider is having to request an additional transcript (I've attended a number of schools).

Any thoughts?

It sounds like a good deal, but getting transcripts is always a pain :confused:

If you don't need these courses as upper level, Oakton Community College is around the same price, and has excellent ratings on their accounting classes... just a thought.

Also, as Synicaal mentioned earlier, if you buy the Wiley access for the course, it includes an e-book, so if you're ok with only an electronic copy, it could be cheaper.
