Technically, no one gets visas for visiting. You could potentially get a visa to study though for the summer. Harvard's Summer School program is open but of course you have to be fully enrolled in a program and be taking credits on campus to qualify. The Harvard Summer School website has the details for summer term.

Can you get a tourist visa that just so happens to overlap with the on-campus dates? I think that's a no-no in some countries, but it'd be okay in others. I'm not sure how the USA feels about it.

I'm not sure how the USA feels about it. I don't see any reason why one can not get a B1/B2 Visitor/Tourist visa and attend the short on-campus session. AFAIK B1/B2 visas can be used for attending short conferences/training programs, as long as one is not monetarily benefiting (aka working) in the USA during the visit.

See "How can I use another visa to study at Harvard Summer School?" at https://summer.harvard.edu/adult-college...istration/
Quote:If you intend to pursue full or part-time study for credit at Harvard Summer School, do not attempt to enter the United States on either ESTA or the B-2 visa.
[...]
Attempting to enter the United States in ESTA or the B-2 visa status to earn credit is a violation of US immigration regulations, and you may risk being denied entry to the United States. This is true for non-degree students as well as admitted Harvard Extension School degree candidates.
Or the question after that, "What do I do if I have a different visa not mentioned above?"
Quote:Many other types of US visas allow study incidental to the primary status, such as the A, J-1, J-2, F-2, H-1B, H-4, L, TN, and others.
If you are currently in the United States on one of the above visa categories, please check with your visa sponsoring organization on the limitations for your study.
