Long story is that 3 years ago, as I was finishing my BS, my little independent hospital was bought by the big fish corporate mega non profit. When this happened my division was eliminated wholesale....I was one of 2 that jumped ship and got retained. I took advantage of tuition reimbursement and my employer paid for the bulk of my MBA at WGU....so the biggervstuff has happened post bachelors and post MBA.

Interesting, way to turn a negative into a positive.
I'm in the position where I would like to change careers, but I make too much money to want to start over. So I'm usually incredibly bored for 8-9 hours a day at work, but I'm able to make up for it on my off work time.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

You know this started with my asking our COO to sit with me and go over career goals. The contact from my OP happened when the COO threw me into the Ebola planing and I got to know this other COO. I simply followed that up when the second one sent me a thank you card..... Point is this hasn't been difficult or odd. Every contact led to the next, it was just meeting people.

Another interesting meeting yesterday afternoon. CEO of our flagship...great guy! I don't get intimidated easily, but found myself sort of sweating this meeting...there was no reason to be worried. Down to earth, friendly, helpful, encouraging....this networking stuff is easier than I expected it to be in every way. Folks at the top seem very open to sharing and trying to provide good advice, they appear to look at it as paying their own success forward and strengthening the organization.
This was the first non direct operations contact (non COO) I've talked to, it was a different perspective. In addition to the things I'm doing within the organization, he stressed increasing my community involvement. Even offered to help me find appropriate outlets to meet and know people outside the organization as a way to both network myself and the organization. Good stuff indeed.

Big interview is tomorrow, resume (and shoes) are polished. I put together a concise portfolio including my detailed and tailored 2 page resume, 3 write ups on projects I've engineered or had a hand in including pictures, and I clipped newspaper stories for which I was interviewed and copied them to the back.... I then took the package to kinkos and had 6 copies made then bound with a frosted cover and heavy stock back....its like a little book about me.
I have been talking to talking every resource I have trying to figure out What sort of questions the panel may ask. Then I spent untold hours researching the suggested topics. I'll be glad when this is over regardless of the outcome!

Good luck to you Rebel.
I have actually been attempting to move up within my company as well. My current position pays well and I can deal with the BS, but I'm getting bored (or is it I'm going through a midlife crisis? LOL). Its an uphill battle. The thing people keep mentioning to me is branding. Make a brand for yourself. I pretty much did this and slapped together a professional website that interviewers can go to and get more information about me. Along with my resume it also showcases accomplished projects, writing samples and even a presentation I did. I also have a page on there listing Extra courses I studied (MOOCs).
