Newbie here and soon to take some CLEP exams :)
#1
Good evening all,

... I just registered to the forum so I think I should introduce myself. I am 30 years old, working full time as an airline pilot... The past few years, I had been focusing my energy to achieve my dream, to fly as a living. Now that's behind me, I would like to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.

I got in touch with a local community college to complete an A.S. in Engineering... Up to 36 credits can be earned through the CLEP. Awesome!

Here is the plan:

Quote:First Semester (15 credits)
Course Credits
ENG 100 - English Composition I 3
Electives:
Social Science Elective 3 Credits
Mathematics/Science Electives 9 Credits

Second Semester (17 credits)
Courses Credits
ENG 112 - English Composition II 3
EGR 150 - Engineering Topics 1
Electives:
Mathematics/Science Electives 13 Credits

Third Semester (16-18 credits)
Electives:
Engineering Curriculum Options 6-8 Credits
Mathematics/Science Electives 7 Credits
Social Science Elective 3 Credits

Fourth Semester (15-17 credits)
Electives:
Engineering Curriculum Option 3-5 Credits
Humanities Electives 6 Credits
Mathematics/Science Elective 3 Credits
Social Science Elective 3 Credits

I just paid the admission fee, I am admitted and I will take a placement test next week (English/Maths).

My goal is to CLEP as many subjects as I can before the Summer Session 2012 or Fall 2012. Which one would you take first? English then Maths (all of them?)? Is there a CLEP exam that could count as Social Science?

Also I speak fluently French and Spanish (Lived 12 years in France, 8 in Spain). Would it be worth it to take any of these subjects considering my major and course requirements?

Please note I am new to this CLEP business and these questions might sound silly Wink

For you guys, CLEP exam takers aka CLEP experts, what would be your 2 cents advice?

Thanks

Everything on your list has a CLEP equivalent except for the engineering stuff. Social Sciences are usually things like Psychology or Sociology. Your school likely has a list somewhere of what it accepts and where that test will count. SS is a good area to attempt your first CLEP in IMO.

Can I ask about your route to ATP employment without a degree? How did you manage it? Military?

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

To answer your question, I started flying in Europe about 10 years ago, built my hours / experience and then later on joined a british airline as a sponsored cadet pilot... Now that I am flying in the US for a regional and hoping to join a major airline, I need that piece of paper Wink

Welcome to the forum btw. Their clep policy looks liberal, though in the end they tell you to "see an advisor" https://www.dccc.edu/student-success-and...rvice#CLEP Your trick is goinf to be finding an adviser that has some experience with CLEP (many are great, others seem to have no clue)

Good Luck!

Very nice! I have a cousin who would love to pull that off.

Its a good bet that Social Science and Humanities will transfer, I would go chat with an adviser before getting to deep though.
