Thanks; it's much easier for me to see this way.
You're in great shape to finish soon!
Since you've taken Biology already, that will help with the Natural Science CLEP, which is 50% Biology and 6 credits. That would give you 12 credits in Natural science/Mathematics. Then you could stay at 9 in Social science/History without needing Psychology. Right?

Oh! I didn't know it was 6 credits, will the six credits count if half of it is a biology class and I already took biology?
That's hard to say, I'll probably have to talk to an advisor. That's fine though, I plan on applying soon and turning in all my transcripts, and then I'll ask about it. That would be awesome if that worked though.

Aloraborealis Wrote:Because I'm a military spouse, if I enroll within 6 months of my application, $50 of the $75 application fee goes towards the enrollment fee. Also, because I'm a milspouse, the enrollment fee is only $740. Also, normally it's $335 per credit hour but being a milspouse, it's only $250 per credit hour. And milspouses can take all CLEP tests for free (the first time, no free retakes) through DANTE. Unfortunately I haven't found any discounts for the annual fee or the graduation fee...but I'll take what I can get!
Just one note on fees - only Coast Guard spouses get the free CLEPs. Other branches are part of the MyCAA and have a different framework for their college assistance. Also, I think the CG is the only branch that allows spouses to have a Skillsoft account & get free credits that way? (I know Navy d/c'd theirs...)
Also about Excelsior, if you're planning to take any of their classes, you can get a reduction in the other fees...for the AA/AS, I think you have to agree to take 6 credits (@ $250/credit) and then enrollment is $100ish for military/spouse (less your application fee) and graduation is another $100ish? The fee schedule is at their site, it's just been so long since I looked at it. This option is not really cost-effective for you, though, since you're so close to finishing!
Search this site for "INL" or "info literacy"...there are threads about cheaper ways to fulfill this requirement.
Congrats on moving forward with your plans - it sounds like you'll be ready to open a new chapter very soon!

There may be a reason that this would be duplicate credit, but I think you will be okay. I was allowed to earn 6 credits for the Biology CLEP followed by 6 more credits for the Natural Science CLEP.
You may be able to find an inexpensive Info Lit course in your area. If not, I believe the Penn Foster course is still available for $115.

Ditto on the no-free tests. All mil spouses used to get CLEP/DSST testing for free at the base college office but that is no longer the case. Check your local office to make sure but both the Navy and Air Force bases here will not allow spouses to test for free citing policy. I cannot say whether or not Coast Guard spouses still get free tests though.

Thank you everybody for your input! NAP it looks like I'll be able to finish with just the one Natural Sciences CLEP then. And everyone else, thanks so much for the military info

I actually am a coastie spouse, and we do still get the CLEPs for free (yay!), so I'm good there. I was wondering how I register to take a CLEP test? Do I need to talk to the Education guy at the station? I feel so new to all this; I didn't even know these things existed, but it's awesome!

Woah -- first the required EC course can be taken elsewhere....less money and less time. Get the exact name (sorry, I can't remember it but I did it this way), and do a search here on the specific forum and you will find a better way to put this one behind you too. It was something like $100 vs $300+ so is worth the time researching here. You do NOT have to take it with EC in order to meet their requirement.
Also, do I see 3 AP tests having been passed already????
If so, other persons here have intentionally taken some of the AP exams as they can get MANY more credits per exam that way - lots of studying and lest testing equals more credits.
Perhaps someone can jump in here with some information on the English and History AP exams and how Excelsior has converted them in the past?????
