New FlexPath Doctorates from Capella

Several of my colleagues also have doctorates from Capella or Walden, or a few from University of Phoenix. One who has a PhD in Business from Capella became dean of the business school at a private liberal arts university, while one who has a Doctorate in IT from Walden is now a regional CIO for a very large bank in the northeast. Rep is one thing, how you market yourself and your credentials is another.
How much writing was involved in your doctorate? I'm potentially reviewing going onto another program.

The program I went through is different than the Ed.D they have now and was not flexpath. The doctorate I completed was an Ed.D in Leadership and Management, which has been replaced with an Ed.D in Educational Leadership. But it was heavily writing intensive. Not to mention you had the dissertation at the end. Now that has been replaced with a doctoral project.

Being that it's a Doctorate it's expected that there will be lots of writing, especially when it's a major that doesn't require much if any hands-on practicums.

I'm aware of that. I'm trying to judge the overall content

Like am I going to be writing 75 pages essays 3 nights a week? Am I going to be writing 20 page essays 2 nights a week? Is it a 200 page essay due every month? etc. I'm trying to get a heavy of exactly how heavy the writing is.

Capella added an EdD in Leadership to FlexPath with a cap of $32,000......

That puts it on par with Cumberlands.

I agree.

I hope some other CBE programs decide to add a doctorate! With Brandman (UMass) adding an online one as well, I hope this, plus Capella's tuition cap puts more pressure on others.

Here's the deets! :O

the cap applies for both FlexPath and GuidedPath. The pricing is just about the same. It'd take two years minimum to do the full degree with two classes per term (2 courses per term x 4 terms = 8 x 2 = 16).  So if you accelerate (two classes at once) it'd cost 25,600. 1 class at a time, will take 16 terms. Before $51200 now $32000. 4 years.

So if you plan on taking your time and spend 3 years, start/stop it's worth it. If you want to accelerate, you do save some cash too.

I wonder how fast it is possible to go on these classes!

I'm very likely 99% going to apply for this one after my MAOL. I'll report back with more details. Capella has a STRONG reputation in my field. That "sour" "degreemill" reputation many have for Capella, is irrelevant in my field. In my field, some of our best experts are Capella PhDs.

I've been thinking more and more about this one, Andrews, Cumberlands, and a few other options. While Capella isn't the most expensive, or the cheapest... I'm starting to feel they will be the best fit for me. They are recognized and respectful in my field. I'm already a leading expert in my field, so a doctorate is just a confirmation of my skill. This will only add to the prestige of which Capella has for my field.

Unless I find a better program, I'm very likely to hop into Capella.
