New, Confuse, Nervous!!!!!
#1
I am new to this forum and i have read pretty much the entire forum..I left school 30 years ago and in considering going back. At the moment I am looking at American Public University (APU) ...That's right! Not one of the three holy grails...I like the ring of University at the end..Confusedmilelol: ha! That being said, I need to get some feedback on that university and some help - maybe guidance in putting together my bachelors plan... I am interested in Bachelors in Business Ad, but I glanced at the course work and I am terrified of statistics:puke: :puke: .
Just trying to figure out what credit hours are… my kids are only 10…Don’t have college experience here and I went to high school in a different country..I am really lost at this.. So, if someone wants to be my mentor, I would really appreciate it…I have gathered allot of information, but I still need to put them all together.
Thank you

Will APU allow you the benefit of completing your degree via testing out?

Are you still looking around? I know of a few colleges with lower tuition than APU that will also likely accept more college level exams.

Although, APU is definitely a wise choice. I almost went with them myself so many years ago.

I took 2 upper level courses at AMU or APU to complete my TESC degree. They do have 8 week term classes which I thought was a real plus compared to TESC. The 2 classes I took had great professors and AMU's customer service is pretty good too. I do think they are pretty generous with their grading because I probably did B level work and got A's in both classes. And in both classes I did not have proctored exams.

@Maniac Craniac
I have already registered, but i am sure that can still change. Cheaper than APU? I will take that.
@ShotoJuku
You Can test out and they do give credit. The exact amount i am not sure. Each time I call I get a different answer so I have my advisor checking that out. I am open to all suggestions, as i am still in the gathering and researching mode. I know that i cannot CLEP out of the Science in the General Course for APU because they needs a lab with it.
@ Taylor
Yes, the 8 weeks course are very intriguing, but I would not jump into that until a get a groove of their style. Would relish some first hand information on their style.

I love the APUS system. I have (more than once) considered a master's degree with them- so has my husband. I'll likely include them on the short for my children. So, yes, I'm a fan.
They have short classes, interesting majors, good CLEP acceptance policy, and are both NA and RA - a home run in my opinion.

This forum is an excellent place to help you. Before registering for too many classes, you'll want to collect any old college credit (if you have taken classes before) or work/military related classes or certifications that may be credit-worthy. That way you don't accidentally take a class that duplicates something you are already getting credit for. Lastly, you'll want to plan a test out list. So, for instance (this is totally made up) let's say you are considering these classes this semester:
SOC101 introduction to sociology
MAT201 introduction to statistics
MAT121 college algebra
POL200 politics of the republic

In that list, you could use clep for the sociology, use ALEKS or CLEP for algebra, and you could use DSST or ALEKS for statistics. The political course doesn't have an exam. So, in this case, you could register for the political course at APUS (and other courses too, especially if you need to take a full load of courses) and free yourself up to test out of the other 3.

If I were your mentor, I would have advised you to NOT yet enroll, because it's my opinion that doing so before understanding what a credit is will cost you both time and money....but since you have enrolled, you can move on from here. But, you need a plan. Lots of us here can help you with that. Welcome to the board!
