New ASU ULC: CIS 308: Advanced Excel in Business
#64
(01-06-2022, 09:02 AM)carrythenothing Wrote: Since the Applied Business Data Analytics certificate requires enrollment (either as an ASU degree-seeking student or Pathways for the Future participant), it's possible Location Analytics for Business won't always be available through EA/UL. For example, it is being offered in March for enrolled and visiting students (i.e., full tuition).

Class search: https://webapp4.asu.edu/catalog/course?s...RT&r=35458

This is no longer the case. It seems that making all the courses available via the EA/UL program was deliberate:

https://ea.asu.edu/partners/abda/

It is now a standalone program that students are supposed to complete via EA/UL.

Side note: something interesting - aside from the certificate, the six courses give you 18 ASU credits for $2,550 that can be reused at ASU toward a bachelor's. The five courses through the undergraduate 100 Milllion learners program will give another 15 credits for free. ASU has a transfer credit limit of 64, of which 60 can be CLEPS/DSSTs (equivalency tables here). For a 120 credit degree, 97/120 isn't bad and that is before you take any other EA/UL classes.

If the 100 Milllion learners program or certificate program courses satisfy upper-level requirements, maybe in a business-related program, someone could also technically take more EA/UL classes to pad their Gen Eds/electives with ASU courses - since they shouldn't count toward that 64 credit transfer limit. The only rule I can find is that CLEPs/DSSTs cannot be used for the lab science requirements or the info lit. So you would need to use the 3 hypothetical EA/UL classes to cover those.

Tbh, I would be interested to see just how far the remaining courses could be kicked down to, though obviously, it is degree-dependent.

Just as an example though, there are 8 classes in their online business major that are a) mandatory, and b) aren't just "Upper Level Business Elective" or "Lower Level Business Elective" (see starred courses here). Of those, 3 look like they should be covered by classes in the 100 Million Learners certificate. This leaves 5 mandatory courses.

Completing the business analytics certificate, plus the 100 Million Learners intermediate track, plus 3 other EA/UL classes, and using Modern States would give you 106-8 ish credits (depending on if you did 3 or 4 credit EA/UL courses) for $3,825-ish.

That leaves the mandatory 15 credits/5 classes for the major. One semester for an online, out-of-state student is $8,000 or $4000-ish if they're eligible for Pell. $4,000 plus the EA/UL fees for an ASU degree isn't bad at all if you're Pell-eligible, and brings in the total cost for an ASU degree under $10k. Still not the cheapest going, but much more reasonable. Someone should try it and report back Wink
