I have finished my BA but I am trying to convince others to go this route, The recent TESC change is discouraging to some.

If Community colleges can grant a Bachelors how can TESC not take CC Credit as upper level?

Obtaining Your Bachelor

"In recent years, community colleges have been experimenting with baccalaureate degree programs. With great success, many states are now encouraging community colleges to offer bachelor’s degree programs, as they promote the acquisition of higher education for the greater public, while also providing degree programs in an increasingly wide range of majors and subject areas. Once a school starts offering bachelors degrees, is it still considered a community college for TESC purposes? I have 12 credits transferred in from a junior college. That school now has some bachelors degree options, but is primarily a two-year school. Back when I took the courses in the 1990's, it only offered associates degrees. My TESC Academic Evaluation includes the 12 credits, but says that I have 0 community college credits. TESC didn't classify the school as a community/junior college.

I'd suggest checking with TESC on whether a particular school would actually be classified as a community college.

Also, the policy of limiting community college isn't unique to TESC. Most of the universities near me have a 60 credit limit from community colleges, so an 80 credit limit as TESC is relatively generous.

It's the norm for colleges to not give UL credit for community college courses unless those courses were originally UL. Typically, 2-year CCs offer no UL credits. I think TESC's policy is to not give UL credits for courses from 2-year colleges. If the CC offers bachelor's degrees, then it is a 4-year college.

It's been awhile since TESC stopped giving UL credit for CC courses.

My surprise was mostly the fact that Community Colleges were giving Bachelors degrees. to me Community College means 2 year Junior college. I am definitely out of the loop but don't you need at least some upper level credits to get a bachelors? So if you start at a community college and have 112 credits toward your degree TESC would still require you to retake upper levels?

TESC only accepts 80 CC credits (I'm guessing there is an exception for 4-year CCs). Even if they did accept up to 120 credits from CCs, yes, you would still need to replace some of them with UL credits.

It is true more and more CC are offering 4 year degrees and are offering upper level courses. 300 and 400 level courses.
Does the school have the words "Community College" in the title? You may make the argument that FAFSA considers your school as a 4 year institution. FAFSA considers my CC a 4 year as they offer 3 BA degrees now. Next semester I will take some 300 level courses there. Upon checking with my State college they won't accept it as a 4 year institution even if you have taken upper level courses there.

In my neck of the hood, there are a number of community colleges that offer upper-level credit, but none that offer Bachelor's. The credits are 100% transferable at upper-level to any of the state universities, though I'm not sure how other universities would view them.

Florida has changed their Community Colleges to "State Colleges". For example we now have both Florida State university in Tallahassee. And Florida State College in Jacksonville.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
