Needing a shove and some help...
#1
Hey everyone. I have been studying for Intro to Modern Middle East for the last couple weeks (just this last week seriously). The longer I stay at it, the lower my motivation drops. I keep procrastinating, which is not helpful, since only answering two questions an hour just makes my motivation lower. Tongue

I like this topic, but there's so much to learn! It is a requirement for my degree. I have a great textbook, but IC's not so good on this one.

Anyway... I'd appreciate any advice/encouragement that will push me to keep going and if any one's taken this test, any advice as well! Thanks guys. Smile

What type of learner are you ? if you are auditory look for lectures, etc in mp3 format. If you learn by watching video' check out you-Tube or your local library.

If you learn best by reading go to the library or bookstore and find books that look like you would enjoy reading them.

There has to be a way for you to become motivated again.

Set little goals and give your self small rewards for reaching them.

Would it help to take a break from this study plan and switch over to Money & Banking for a few days? This way you won't have any "unproductive" time, but your brain will get to focus on a different set of materials for a while. It's like the gloriously indulgent streeeeeeetch when you've been sitting in the same position for a while.

The best solution I have found is...........

Schedule your test.

I don't do well with open-ended deadlines. But if I HAVE to have something done by a deadline, I can make myself crack down more.

Do you give yourself rewards? Like, after you read X number of pages or do X number of IC sections, you can go to Dunkin Donuts and get yourself a coolatta? Big Grin Big Grin That one works for me too. Big Grin

Thanks guys. I actually do have my test scheduled for Monday... which is why I need to be studying!

But I took the advice... gave myself a reward AND took a break simultaneously by going and reading a completely non-study book. Smile So now I think I can head off to study some more. I may just have to keep taking little breaks... I think I'm used to being able to cram in all the information in a short amount of time. Maybe with this test I need to allow myself the breaks. Smile

Anyway, thanks again! I'm sure I'll be on here again rejoicing once this test is over!

Nifty, I just realized we're both at the same point!

It's going to be weird to walk out of the last history Dantes on Monday knowing that there's no more running to the IC Lounge to start on the next set of flashcards. And then the following Monday, the final exam (CLEP algebra). And then - well, then there's waiting for the transcripts to be received and processed at EC, but then it's time to apply for graduation!

That's great! Congratulations on having made it so far!

It will be strange to not have to study any more... but I cannot wait!

Good Luck at CLEP Algebra. I HATE math. That's why I'm glad for my Economics B.A. I don't have to take more than, I think, 3 Math Credits. Of course the classes/CLEPs/DSSTs I'll have to take will have a lot of math involved.

I'm a horrible, horrible procrastinator. I bought my first CLEP study guide a few years ago and only took CLEP #1 last week.

Just schedule the exam. That's how I stopped procrastinating for my NYC refrigeration license written exam and my CLEP SS & Hist. exam. Seeing it on my calendar and committing $$$ to it (even though it's only $35) cured the procrastination.

I have the practical portion of the reefer exam coming up (scheduled it the day I passed the written) and I think I'm gonna schedule another CLEP today.
