Need some kinda degree YESTERDAY
#1
I know you guys have heard this a million times. I have combed the archives, done searches, but I guess a degree is so individual that there isn't a one size fits all answer.

DILEMMA: Need a piece of paper that says I have a 4 year degree. No, it will not help my job. No, it will not advance me. All I need it for is a military promotion (I am a reservist)

Here is what I have:

CLEP:
Social Sciences and History 6
Biology 6
Spanish I and II 12
Analyzing and Interpreting Lit 6
College Composition (I think this one was English I and II) 6

Total CLEP: 36

STRAIGHTERLINE:
Intro to Psychology 3
Intro to Criminal Justice 3
American Government 3

Total Straighterline: 9

SOPHIA:
Project Management 3
Accounting 3
Approaches to Studying Religions 3
Art History I 3
Art History II 3
Public Speaking 3
Intro to Business 3
US History II 3

Total Sophia: 24

COSC Cornerstone: 3

FEMA: Over 70 courses, but COSC does not count these anymore.

Gives me about 72 units if all is counted.

I was enrolled at COSC but they are changing their rules July 1 and it doesn't look like I will be able to make the deadline. Also, their capstone is only held once per term.

SO yeah, where do I go from here. Need the fastest degree, even if it's in underwater basket weaving Tongue

Well if you are able to put in the time. WGU could be the fastest. The terms are 6 months and if you work hard enough you might be able to do in 6 months or less. You would have to study business or IT related degrees though. If you have enough free time or knowledge to plow through it quickly this would be the best option as far as speed. But if you don't think you can do that, then TESU might be better.

TESU could be a good option, especially for military (idk if the military discounts apply for Reservists though). But it might not be as fast. The degrees don't confer instantly and they take a long time to evaluate everything. Plus who knows what changes they might make July 1st. Nevertheless, it is still a really good option. I just think WGU than TESUcould be faster IF you can finish in one term at WGU. But if you can get the military tuition at TESU the cost is cheaper. TESU offers Liberal Arts which could be easier to complete than a Business major because it allows for more electives.

Is WGU Western Governors U?

Why does TESU take so long, just curious?

Also I should have stated that I will CLEP / DSST/ Straighterline and SOPHIA out of as much as a I can. I did all those Sophia courses within a week, so should be no problem to move fast.

yes

> Why does TESU take so long

I don't know what other problems there are, but TESU requires two courses be taken with them
a cornerstone and a capstone

https://blog.tesu.edu/whats-a-capstone-p...to-take-it

WGU requires a capstone
see bottom of
https://www.wgu.edu/content/dam/western-...SBAMGC.pdf

but WGU let's you go as fast as you can -- no forums you must contribute to -- just do every course as fast as you can

Business Admin degree I feel is more useful this Liberal Arts degree. Both can be completed easily.

With TESU you have to get to 100 credits with most of your AOS completed to take your capstone. Then it is 3 months for the capstone/info its course, then small wait to get the actual degree.

With WGU if you go the Business Admin route, it is possible to transfer in 90 credits, and then it may be possible to complete within 6 months. However, if you are working a job full-time, it will be pretty hard to do I imagine. Go over 6 months and then you will have to signup for another 6-month term so you would be up against the clock.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

I think TESU's military rate is good for reservists, so it will be BY FAR the cheapest degree.  You can take 6 TECEP's for $150 each, and the cornerstone and capstone for $750 each, so it's like $2500 total. But call and check with them.

Also, you need to tell us when you took the Spanish CLEP, and what your score was.  Then we can confirm the number of credits they will give (it's changed over time).

First thing to do is finish Sophia:
1) Ethics
2) US History I, or something easy that's a GE
3) Visual Comm or Conflict Res or something that's easy that's a GE
4) Apply and enroll in a TECEP (I'd do Liberal Arts Math & Computers to start since they're really easy)
5) choose your 5 UL courses - I'd prob do Study.com, since those are for-sure, but you could do a couple of DSST exams since they're free for you, it just depends on whether you can find an open testing center or not; and if you know the material for the UL DSST exams (Money and Banking, History of the Soviet Union, and Fundamentals of Cybersecurity).

Take the rest of your TECEP exams (4 more, can literally be anything you haven't already taken, I'd choose all-multiple-choice myself), and then take the cornerstone then capstone.  I think this is really your easiest and cheapest option.  You could do Business, but it will take more time.

EC takes FEMA courses. You do have to pay a fee though. They have huge programs with the military as well.

Good point.

Yeah TESU is probably a better option. The only reason I said it slower is the degrees take longer to confer. TESU depending on when you take your capstone it can take months to confer. Unlike WGU. So that is what makes TESU slower. But I think TESU is a better option especially with military tution.

Thank you guys for some really awesome feedback. My MOS is 31A military police and I have not pulled my JST yet. I am just trying to compile the civilian stuff I have because it's easier to get all in one place and doesn't require lots of eval.

RE: TESU vs WGU, I REALLY need to do this at my own pace, which means moving very fast, i.e. multiple tests / classes every week. Can I do this with TESU?

Waiting for a degree cert to arrive would be really maddening.

So with all you guys have told me, based upon my own motivation, could I still knock out TESU as fast as WGU.

Set aside military discounts right now, let's just say I will pay to go as fast as I can.
