Need credits for CPA

Since you're a TESU graduate you can apply (FREE for alumni) for the 'Undergraduate Certificate in Accounting'. The Med TECEP will get you enrolled/active and then you can transfer credits in at your hearts desire for one year. Even if you do not file to graduate with the certificate those credits will become part of your bachelor transcript (since you're alumni); showing all your credits on a single transcript.  Another plus is TESU takes not only ACE credits but NCCRS (which some of those ULs listed in the below post are).

Thanks for pointing that out! I think TESU only charges $100 graduation fee to get a certificate, too. In addition to getting some credits, It might also be helpful if I needed to get another job between now and whenever it is I end up with a masters in accounting or CPA.

If you don't have enough residency credit, you DO have to pay a residency waiver fee for a certificate. If you did take 15 (or more) TESU credits for your Bachelor's degree, you're covered and don't have to pay the waiver fee.

That is correct, if you do not already have the residency earned (through TESU course 15 credits) the certificate would require a residency waiver in order to graduate with it. Currently the TESU Certificate waiver is $1,250 when graduating with it on its own (even for an alumni). It is a good point to make, thank you rachel83az

In this case the OP would not necessarily need the certificate for the CPA exam (for transcript purposes) - but as they stated it might be worthwhile to show accounting competency on their resume (for applying for work or graduate programs). I've been tossing around idea of graduating with this certificate myself for awhile; I'm nearing it coming down to a coin toss (and the $1250 rationale)...

If they'll accept ACE credits on a TESU transcript, you should be able to get any credits you find you need from Sophia or Study.com. You'd just reapply ($50) and register for the 1cr APS-1000 TECEP ($52). Don't take it, just register for it. Send in your alt-credit and then send your transcript into the state licensing board.

You want to be clear about the state board accepting the credits, though.

Does anyone around have an idea if this will work for Illinois? I did ask the Board recently about ACE/NCCRS credits and the answer I got was "We accept credits from schools accredited by CHEA and USDE.". This, if anything, sounds like a "no", but I would still prefer a more definitive answer ...

That's a no, CHEA and USDOE looks at institutions, not course providers... Now, unless you're going for classes that have ACE/NCCRS that are also part of a RA or NA institution, then that's the only workaround. Penn Foster for example, if they still have X ACE classes available in accounting, Genesys University (NCCRS, but all their classes are in Education).

I saw this reddit post which still makes me want to give it a try ... If we apply the same logic ... If TESU accepts the credits, the board should too accept them ...
