Years ago my two oldest children took several CLEP and DSST exams. One graduated in 2011 with a degree made up of only CLEP, DSST, and FEMAs from TESC, and the other came close to an AA and decided to enter the workforce. We used this forum and IC on a daily basis. The community here was a crucial part of our journey.
In the meantime two other family members started taking CLEP and DSST exams, following the same general path. They have accumulated 27 and 33 credits respectively.
Now that TESC has changed so many of their policies, I'm at a loss for how to advise them. Each want to complete some sort of associates degree as a first goal. Neither are enrolled anywhere.

I think COSC has the simplest format for getting an AA, except they require a cornerstone course.
TESC, now uses the LEAP system and the courses have to be broken down into certain categories. I actually like it because it gives the degree a purpose besides a collection of credits, but it makes it just slightly more difficult.
Here is the map TESC provides. I'll try and do a quick map using the credits you have in a 2nd post. I have one question though. TESC now has a per credit plan. If your student takes 12 credits with TESC, you don't have to pay the huge enrollment fee. These 12 credits can be fulfilled with TECEPs, which at around $100 each can save a lot of money. Does your student plan on doing the traditional enrollment fee or the per credit plan?

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Is there a list somewhere of which CLEP and DSST exams fall into the three categories:
A. Intellectual and Practical Skills
B. Personal and Social Responsibility
C. Human Cultures and the Physical and Natural World
It seems at first glance that most of the credits they have earned will fall into General Education Electives.
