Need 1 UPPER level credit
#1
Hello,

I was wondering if any of you fine people have ideas on how to attain 1 UPPER level credit? I need 6 upper level credits (in anything) to graduate. I just went through Dale Carnegie Management Training for work and it gives me 2 UPPER level business credits. I am left with 4 credits needed to graduate. I would like to take Ethics (ECE) and clear the remaining 1 credit with something simple rather than take two 3 credit classes. Maybe a certification or something? Any ideas appreciated!

Thanks!

Excelsior's Research and Writing in the Majors courses are one credit upper-level. If you enrolled at Excelsior after Sept 1, 2007, then you need to satisfy that requirement anyway, and this would be a good choice. Otherwise, you're probably going to find it easier to earn three upper-level credits (several DSSTs and ECEs qualify) than to earn one. I would think that this one-credit course, which is basically writing a research paper, is more work and definitely more money than one of the three-credit exams. I sympathize, because I understand that taking a three-credit exam would obviate your Dale Carnegie credits, and that would annoy me if I were in your position.

I don't know whether any of the FEMA courses (credited through one of the qualifying community colleges) gives upper-level credit, but I'm pretty sure they are all one credit each.

Hi, KMS1,

Where are you enrolled?

TESC counts 200-level courses as upper level, and there are a number of FEMA courses that transfer at the 200 level. From another post here on the boards, it looks like there are two courses that transfer to TESC as 300 level: IS003 is EDM 399, and IS513 is EDM 303. TESC also offers a one-credit Jane Austen course which counts at the 200 level as a general education elective. (In case you hadn't guessed, I've got odd credits, too.)

Hope this helps,
Sandy

Sometimes it's easier to go over than force a square peg into a round hole. I have another idea, TESC offers 3 different courses that are each 6 credits. I am currently enrolled in Social Psychology- 300 level. (cake) There is another called War and something or other, and Environment and something or other. (lol you'll have to search the course listing, sorry!) Anyway, you'll end up with a couple of bonus credits, but you will be hitting your other goal of only taking one course instead of two! This is an expensive option though- my class has 3 text books + the tuition. It was almost $1000.

As Sandy mentioned, the Jane Austin course is 1 credit. This would be pretty cheap- $165, and I think the text is actually a novel that you could pick up anywhere. (Pride and Prejudice?)

You didn't mention DSSTs, but that would be my first choice. Much faster, much cheaper.

I'm also taking Social Psychology and Jane Austin. Jane Austin is only $165 because the book and study guide are both available online through the course.
